The Circuit Court.
The circuit court cloned ior the term Saturday, after a busy week. Among the cases tried was that of Ooen vs. Halstead. The heirs of the late Madison Makeever farm brought suit against Everett Halstead, to whom the farm was rented, lo recover the value of wood cut from the land, which Halstead claimed he had a right to out according to the terms of his lease. The plaintiffs were awarded a judgment of 1247. Halstead states that the case will be appealed and will be in the courts for the next three years. Ed Griggs was acquitted of the charge of assault and battery upon the person of Richard Meyers, whom he so soundly threshed at a recent school entertainment at Fair Oaks. The case was tried by a jury, who failed to reaoh a verdict, and Griggs was discharged. Meyers has disappeared. John Huff plead guilty to burning the barn on Laura Michael's farm and was sentenced to from one to twenty one years in the penitentiary at Michigan Olty. He claimed to have started the tire accidently. The case of Forsythe vs. the City of Rensselaer was tried by Judge Lairy, of Logansport, He will not render his decision until the next term ol court. , Daisy A. DeVooght was granted a divorce irom Joseph/ DeVooght. They are prohibited from marrying again for two yeurs. Mary Oleson was granted a divorce from John H. Oleson on the grounds ot abandonment, and given the privilege of renewing her maiden name ol Hamilton, Emory White, of Fair Oaks, was acquitted on the charge of shooting quail out of season.
