Fair Oaka.
Mrs. Hattie Kessler spent last week with relatives in Chicago. Jack Kight and Allison Kinney attended the carnival at Indianapolis last week. The regular monthly temperance meetings have been postponed indefiinately. Walter Linton, of Foresman, spent Sunday with friends and relatives. Henry Lambert, of Lowell, spent Sunday with his mother Mrs. Sarah Lambert and other ralatives. Mrs. Sarah Elliott, of Chicago, is visiting her grandmother, Mrs. Sarah Lambert. Lawler & Thompson shipped in three car loads of fine hogs from Earl Park, Ind., last Saturday. The old railroad crossing, has been replaced by a new one at this place. Rev. A. C. Abbett, who has been living with his son at Indianapolis since the death of his wife, was calling on friends and relatives in town a few days last week. The Monon run their last cheap excursion for this season to Chicago last Sunday. Only six tickets were sold at this place. Dr. Hinkins and Wm. Stanley, of Chicago, were the guests of Peter Zea and wife over Sunday. The Ladies’ Aid society of the M. E. church met at Mrs. Brace Moffitts last Tuesday afternoon and improved the time mostly at sewing. Ennis-Moffitt and Joe Winslow are now engaged in the butcher business. They intend opening a regular meat market as soon as a suitable room can be rented. Mrs. Nettie Linton was calling on friends and relatives in town over Sunday and left Monday for the same purpose. Chas. Gundy has razed his old ice house to the ground preparatory to building a new one on the same site. Chas. Barker, wife and children spent the past week with friends and relatives atjeYddo and other places in Fountain county. Dr. Proudly is spending this week with relatives in Chicago and will also witness “Ben Hur.” Mrs. Fannie Morgan and son Vernon, and her sister Maud Fry, have gone to Barnesville, Ohio, for a month’s visit with old friends and relatives. They will also visit at other places.
The 6 months’ old child of Mr. and Mrs. Elias Brockus, of Chicago Heights, died last Sunday. The burial took place at II o’clock Monday in the cemetery at this place. Joe Kight and his brother Isaac have bought the Tanner general store at Thayer, and the former will have charge of the same. Mr. Kight will move his family therefrom Rensselaer in about two weeks We wish them success in their new enterprise. The traveling photographers have concluded to remain here yet this week. They are doing a good business. The box supper given by the ladies of the Christian church at the school house last Saturday evening was well attended and a success financially, the net receipts amounting to about sl2. Miss Eva Vanarsdel was voted the most popular young lady present and was awarded a handsome cake as a prize.
