Miss Ruby Knowlton is visiting in Lafayette. Rev. Ed Meads is conducting a revival at Princeton. Mrs. C. B. Harrold, of Hammond, is visiting relatives here. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. Vernon Nowels last Friday. Lowell pays a tax of $3.76 on every hundred dollars assessment. Frank Sayler assisted the Delphi team in a game with Frankfort last Friday. Mr. and Mrs. D. H. Yeoman visited their sons, Dal and James, at Ambia, Sunday. A son was born to Mr. and Mrs. James Snedeker, near Pleasant Grove, Saturday. Mrs. B. Forsythe has returned from an exteded visit at New Philadelphia, O. Mrs. Ross Grant, of South Bend, was here to attend the Alter Fritts wedding Tuesday. A daughter was born to editor Marshall, of the Republican, and wife, last Wednesday. Babcock A Hopkins are erecting a corn crib of 25,000 bushels capacity near their new elevator.
■The high school foot ball team defeated the Mt- Ayrites last Friday afternoon by a score of 59 to 0. Mbs. J. F. Rank and son Ernest, of Englewood, were the guests of her sister, Mrs. J. Irwin, Sunday. A. H. Hicks, the tax ferret, has been transferred to Rockville to pursue similar work. He left Monday.
Capt. and Mrs. J. M. Wasson have returned from a two weeks’ visit at Geneva, Ind., and Union City, Ohio. Joseph Sleeper, of Oxford, states that he is a candidate against T. J. McCoy for the district chairmanship. Postmaster Meyer attended the postmasters’ convention of the 10th congressional district at Lafayette Tuesday.
The Derby Bros, have sold their 352 J acre farm in Hanging Grove township to 8. H. Howe, of Thawville, TIL, for $23,395.
A Winamac real estate dealer closed up contracts for the sale of 23 Pulaski county farms last week. An Illinois syndicate was the buyer. Babcock & Hopkins were in Boston, New York, Pittsburg, Philadelphia and Washington last week investigating the grain markets. W. W. Findley, of Brookston, Sunday. Evangelistic meetings are being held at the Church of God by Elder J. M. Walters. Mrs. Amelia Smith, of Chicago, is the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Vernon Nowels. Mr. and Mrs. W. H. Daugherty, of Monticello, are visiting relatives in this vicinity.
Mrs. James Yeoman and Mrs. Joseph Yeoman are visiting at Hammond and Chicago Heights. Mr. and Mrs. Spencer Hollister, of Mattoon, 111., is the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D. E. Hollister. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Dwiggins, of Jacksonville, 0., have been visiting relatives here. Mrs. J. G. MeAhern, of Monon, has been the guest of her daughter, Mrs. Monroe Banes. C. G. Spitler is attending a state meeting of the district K. of P. deputies at Indianapolis.
Mr. and Mrs. J. M. Holmes, of Winamac, are the guests of M. P. Warner and family. Rev. and Mrs. V. O. Fritts, of Dunkirk, were here this week to attend the wedding of their son, Earnest. Miss Mary Yates has closed her dressmaking establishment until she recovers from an attack of rheumatism. Prof. W. H. Sanders attended the meeting of the Northern Indiana City Superintendents’ Club at Alexandria last Friday. Miss Christena Hildebrand attended the wedding of her uncle at North Vernon Tuesday. She was one of the bridesmaids.
The Lafayette Stars and the Rensselaer Athletics foot ball teams will open the season at Riverside Park, in Rensselaer, to-day. Mrs. Rosa Brown and daughter, Miss Nellie, of near Wolcott, were the guests of Mrs. Brown’s sister, Mrs, W. 8. Parks, Saturday and Sunday. John Daugherty has been bound over to the circuit court in the sum of S4OO to answer to paternity proceedings brought by Dennie Turner. Herbert Sorrell, who has been working in a butcher shop at Goodland, has accepted a similar position at Sheridan and has moved his family there. W. H. Coover has arrived home from a prospecting trip in the west. He has decided to locate in business either at Colorado Springs or Boulder, Colo.
Mr. and Mrs. Jay Stockton returned from their wedding trip Friday evening. They will make their home at his mother’s residence on Division street. The first Monday in November is the last day for paying taxes without the penalty being added. Eger has purchased J. F. Osborne’s residence on Franklin street. It is excellent property and adjoins Mr. Eger’s present home on the north.
An “old folks’ meeting” will be held at the M. E. church next Sunday morning at 10:30.' An effort will be made by the Epworth League to have all folks attend. The last Sunday excursion of the season was well patronized Sunday. One hundred and eighty six tickets were sold at this point. The train was late both going and returning. Mr. and Mrs. B. 8. Fendig, the newly married couple, arrived home Monday morning, and are now at home to their friends at hip mother’s home on Front street. On their trip north they stopped off for a day at Nashville and also at Cincinnati.
Mrs. Frank Yeoman, of Chickasaw, Okla., and Mrs. Cynthia Weathers, of Howard, Kans., are visiting relativ* s in this vicinity. Mr. and Mrs. R. S. Dwiggins, after a short, visit here, departed Monday for southern Californi i, where they are thinking' some of making their future home.

Mrs. T. J. McCoy was in Indianapolis yesterday attending a reception given to Mrs. Senator Fairbanks by the State Daughters of the American Revolution. Wallace and Clifford Parkison have returned from a prospecting trip in Oklahoma and Kansas. They made no purchase but may later buy some desirable land. Orland Finney, head clerk in LaRue’s grocery department, has accepted a similar position in a big department store at Elwood and is preparing to move about the first of the month. W. T.
