The Designer.
The November Designer is strong in Thanksgiving features, among which may be mentioned two short stories—>‘The Minister’s Turkey,” and “Maria’s Redemption,” a comedietta—“Rival Hunters,” suggestions for a holiday entertainment embodied in “Thanksgiving Silhouettes,” and appropriate poems in “Selections for the Recitation ist.” In this atmosphere of rejoicing the “shut ins” are included, for many practical and inexpensive hints for their comfort are given in “The Invalid.” “Comforts for the Baby” and “Deft Embroidery’’ will supply the fancy worker with new empToyment, and “Nursery Lore,” “Household Advice” and “Cookery Recipes” will be valued by the tender mother and practical housekeeper. Up-to-date fashions and millinery, which are always prominent in The Designer, in this especial number are appropriate for winter and are most artisically set forth. Aside from the regular depart mentß where garment designs for adults and juveniles are presented, there are given this month three special articles—“ Furs Fashionable,” “Mourning Attire” and “Fashionable Dress Sleeves,” the latter under “Points on Dressmaking,” “Health and Beauty” hints, “Fitments for the Dining Room” “Book Notes” and the concluding chapters of the Kentucky love story, “Faint Heart and Fair Lady,” are also to be found in this number. Mrs. Whitsell Lewis is visiting in DeMotte. Harrison township, Pulaski county, defeated the proposition to vote a tax to the new east and west railroad by a vote of IzO to 51. The editor of the Danville News recently made a speech advocating removal of all anarchists to an island where they could be forced to stay and allowed to run a “government” according to their own theory, viz. No government, no husband, no wife, no religion, no virtue, no God. As to what island should be selected he had no further suggestion than that it should be just as close to hell as possible.
