A Long,Lived Engine.
The Great Northern Railway Company, of England, are the owners of din express engine which' is believed to own the world’s record for the number of miles run. This is No. 1, employed dally on express trains between Peterborough and London, or Peterborough and Doncaster. The engine, which belongs to a single driving wheel type, was built at Doncaster in 1850, being the first to be fitted with outside cylinders. From careful calculations made the engine has just recently completed its four millionth mile. The engine still runs bn its original wheels, and is capable of holding Its own against the newest constructed. In Its long life the No. 1 has not met with an accident of serious nature.
