THE COUNTY COUNCIL
Met Monday But Refused Appropriation for Tax Ferrets. The county council met in session Monday per call of the auaitor to act on certain appropriations, the most Important appropriation asked for being >5,000 for the payment of the tax ferrets. Two of the seven members, Erhart Wuerthner and Chas. J. Denham voted for the appropriation, and the balance voted against it. N. J. Eldredge then made a motion to appropriate 91,000, which was also voted down, Eldredge and Wuerthner being the only ones to vote for the motion. It is thought that >5,000 will be sufficient to pay the ferrets for their work. As they recjeve no pay until double the amount of their claims are paid into the county treasury it is hard to understand the object of the council in refusing to make the appropriation, but it will probably be made at a later meeting. The matter of making an appropriation for the street improvement around the public square was not brouteqfc before the council, but will be at a later session. The following appropriations were made: For increase iq county recorder’s salary as provided by new law S4BO For increase in county institute as provided for by new law ; 50 For expanse of taking enumeration oncj in six years 260 To pay following claims of 1900, allowed but not drawn from treasury: Telephone rent .. 26.05 Suplies county jail.. 11.00 Expenses poor farm 5.91 Viewing roads 4,50
