The Lord Mayor of Sheffield, England, has commissioned Onslow Ford to execute a marble bust of Queen Victoria for the new town hall. John Morley, being ejected trustee of the British museum, will succeed Sir Lubbock as representative of the same in the house of commons. ■ Dr. William Mac Neil Whistler, brother of the artist \f that name, died in London a few days ago. He was a surgeon in the confederate army during the civil war. The family of General Gordon have protested in the London Times against the collection of money for their support. “It is.” they say, “the last thing he would have wished.” Andrew Coats of Perth, England, who died recently at the age of 85, was the last of four brothers who built up the spool cotton trade representing many millions. Their father was a humble Paisley weaver.
