The Dr. Jackson Case.
The Dr. Mary Jackson abortion case is being tried at Hammond and is attracting considerable attention. The defense is making every effort to secure an acquittal. The evidence of Mary Nagle, on which the prosecution hoped to convict, was not very strong against the defendant, and, if anything, was in her favor. An unsigned letter supposed to have been written by Dr. Jackson to Earl Mann, was introduced in evidence Tuesday. It would tend to incriminate her to considerable extent. . A number of doctors gave evidence which was decidedly in favor of the defendant, who claims to have merely attended the Nagle girl during confinement, and to have tried to shield her from disgrace afterwards.
