Trustee Fined.

The cases against C. B. Caldwell, ex-trustee of Franklin township, Pulaski county, were tried in the Starke circuit court Wednesday of last week. The grand jury of Pulaski county had returned two indictments against him, each for receiving a bribe from a teacher. All of the grand jurors who indicted Caldwell, except one, joined in a written request to the court to visit only a fine upon him if that would conform with the law governing the case. In court Wednesday he plead “not guilty” to the charge of corruption, but confessed the facts. It appearing in evidence to the court that all shortage of whatever nature had been paid, no person being out anything, the court assessed a fine of f 25 in each case and gave him one day in jail. The costs amounted to $39.75. At the time the indictments were returned againßt Caldwell, bo skipped the country by “the light of the moon,” but afterwards returned and gave bond for his appearance at court.
