WANTED A WIFE.

Offered SIOO for a Bride, Now Refuses to Pay. Monticello Independent. Henry Foreman, a farmer living near Monticello, came to town a few weeks ago and opened negotiations with some Monticello people to get him a wife. The old boy is quite found of the fair sex and offered SIOO to his friends here if they would introduce him to a woman who would share his lot henceforth. Now it so happened that these Monticello friends knew a lady who was equally anxious for a mate and they accordingly arranged a meeting for the pair. The courtship was a short one and Dec. 13, 1900, the clerk’s record shows that Henry Foreman and Sarah Jane Luse were licensed to wed, Rev. Bridge performing the ceremony. The Monticello match makers now put in an appearance and demanded tne promised reward. Poor old Henry! He had secured his bride. Why the very idea of giving up a cold SIOO for something he already possessed! No, he just wouldn’t do it. He didn’t even remember of having offered SIOO to anyone; had no knowledge of it Whatever. And there the matter stands and will continue to stand until the next term of court, when suit will no doubt be brought to collect the bill.
