At risk of hiving out motives waaaj Mything 1 Tt ail «n iba sabjaot, that *o us the proa pMt tor eomntßolng work again *t an earlv day ttpoo the Indiana Avista* of the CMMgo * South ing. At tha tnwaUng ot directors at Montioello Un week it ws* re solved, we an told, to at an don for tha present that pm of the line from Dyer north to Chicago. ‘This oonrae was decided upon for two reason*: First to elinainsta Mr. Bay, tha vine pros'deot, from the company; and, second, to enable a party of half a doaen gentleman at Delphi to obtain the management •f it Foremost among these Delphi gentlemen h Mr. Gulches, a con true tot who has done considerable work in the way of grading and masonry for biidges for which
jpij lias received no pay. Air. Gulches also has a plan forproour- 1 ing money t> finish the road bed, \ purchase iron and rolling stock, and pay up pieaent indebtedness which he is anxious to develop. His plan, if we ate not mistaken, mortgage bonds and peddle them eat among the inhabitants along me itne or tno worx; raw utrir notes for the psyment of money on these bonds when the road is in operation, which notes are to be deposited on trust with local agents elected bv the bond purchase!*; then go to capitalists and borrow money, giving these aollaterals as security. In order to givo Mr. Gulches a better opportunity to develop his plan he was elected superintendent of the aho, lened route. Tbe raasaas why we think that work will not be oonunenoed on the line very soon are these: 1. It will require a long time to induce people to tnke the bonds ou the terms' proposed. S. R witl be difficult to find men who wi" loan money on such aeourity as the contingent note* taken for the bonds. 3. it tbe bonds ai e taken, a loan negotiated, and the prospect for success brightens, Mr. Ray and his fritßCs W'll most assuredly retaliate for tb>s snubbing of him and progress w >Ji number!esc : vs. It ia said that Dr. Haymoud, president of the company, save no countenance to the proceedings at the MontioeUo meeting, and was careful not to aay anything that might ha construed into a hopeful outlook for tha project. As a grain of encouragement to the i'rieods ot this enterprise we will add that tbe newspapers at the eastern end of the line in North and South Carolina, have lately published interesting reports of actual progress in the extension of lines of railroad now in operation which have been consolidated as parts of this mighty aobeme.

Tbeie Is now a favorsble prospect that silver coin will supercede fractional paper currency in tbe United Uti tee before the olose of the ccutennial year. Already the government tuts aocumul&tuu an immense sum In the treasury vaults at Washington, and shipments aie being made u> the des*gnated depositories in New /orK, Chicago aud elsewhere for pise' t upon the market at an eaily day. In ! California and Nevada silver co.n has become so plentiiul, is so butdensome, aud has depreciated so much in value below gold, that everybody no passing it out of their possession as rapidly as possible, much after the manner of people years ago w -th the bills of banks wbicb were suspected of weakness. Holman looms up like a da k summer ihunder cloud on the democratic horizon as a candidate for governor of Indiana. Hotmau or Landers, which ? is the question now agitating the convention manipuiatajs. Holman is : ataonger"amrtnjf the newspaper men, while Landers appeals to be the most popular with the masses. Thb Union does not expect to advocate Mr. Landers 7 elecGou but we believe he would come nearer :*celving a majority in Jasper oouuty than any other man ihedemocracy are likely to nominate; and It seems to us that the republicans generally fear him more than any other person yet mentioned as a candidate against Mr. Orth. It may he nothing naore than a growl Horn chronic grumblers, but the reports from the fruit sections of I ndiana are not favorable for a bouni..ul crop this year.
