THE INDIANAPOLIS, DELPHI & CHIGACO RAILROAD.
At risk of hiving out motives waaaj Mything 1 Tt ail «n iba sabjaot, that *o us the proa pMt tor eomntßolng work again *t an earlv day ttpoo the Indiana Avista* of the CMMgo * South ing. At tha tnwaUng ot directors at Montioello Un week it ws* re solved, we an told, to at an don for tha present that pm of the line from Dyer north to Chicago. ‘This oonrae was decided upon for two reason*: First to elinainsta Mr. Bay, tha vine pros'deot, from the company; and, second, to enable a party of half a doaen gentleman at Delphi to obtain the management •f it Foremost among these Delphi gentlemen h Mr. Gulches, a con true tot who has done considerable work in the way of grading and masonry for biidges for which
jpij lias received no pay. Air. Gulches also has a plan forproour- 1 ing money t> finish the road bed, \ purchase iron and rolling stock, and pay up pieaent indebtedness which he is anxious to develop. His plan, if we ate not mistaken, mortgage bonds and peddle them eat among the inhabitants along me itne or tno worx; raw utrir notes for the psyment of money on these bonds when the road is in operation, which notes are to be deposited on trust with local agents elected bv the bond purchase!*; then go to capitalists and borrow money, giving these aollaterals as security. In order to givo Mr. Gulches a better opportunity to develop his plan he was elected superintendent of the aho, lened route. Tbe raasaas why we think that work will not be oonunenoed on the line very soon are these: 1. It will require a long time to induce people to tnke the bonds ou the terms' proposed. S. R witl be difficult to find men who wi" loan money on such aeourity as the contingent note* taken for the bonds. 3. it tbe bonds ai e taken, a loan negotiated, and the prospect for success brightens, Mr. Ray and his fritßCs W'll most assuredly retaliate for tb>s snubbing of him and progress w >Ji number!esc : vs. It ia said that Dr. Haymoud, president of the company, save no countenance to the proceedings at the MontioeUo meeting, and was careful not to aay anything that might ha construed into a hopeful outlook for tha project. As a grain of encouragement to the i'rieods ot this enterprise we will add that tbe newspapers at the eastern end of the line in North and South Carolina, have lately published interesting reports of actual progress in the extension of lines of railroad now in operation which have been consolidated as parts of this mighty aobeme.

Tbeie Is now a favorsble prospect that silver coin will supercede fractional paper currency in tbe United Uti tee before the olose of the ccutennial year. C'laiborne county is situated twentv-five miles below Vicksburg on the Mississippi river, and is one of the most lovely spots on earth. I know if you could induce some : of you* friends to make us a visit : they would not consider us below j au average of the white race, while roe soil and olimate will show lor itself. I promise them a hearty' j welcome if they come down here;! land no exhibition of the Broody : Shirt, but real Cenlenuial good will, j I want to see energy aud thrift J once more in this beam! i'ul country. ,It cun only be reclaimed by the j | men**y aiiu energy of the white ' rnce. These are assertions, out it only requires casual obseivation to see them being verified. I woald. We have j even facility of transportation—j are right on the river with a railj road lrom iHe river to Port Gibson —and a splendid farming and graz:ug country. Manufactories might easily be established here and would be sure to pay. _,an you not place these facts before some of the Grangers, and prevail on them to sei.d an agent down here to prospect fo r them ? Before the war land* here were worth from fur y to fifty dollars an acre; now they can be bought for a song—from eight to too dollars. They are os | good to-day aa they were then, and all that ia required is the labor to cultivate them. If yon can send some pioneers I woald be glad to have them come and tee the country, and’ promise them a pleasant visit. We are etill having disagreeable weather and as changeable as some of oar would-be’s hearts. What have yoa done, Messrs. Kditors, to prevent the appearance of ripiing? A peep behind tbe scenes this morning, and behold her attired in that old brown robe, gently reclining upon tbe bosom of old Winter. Oh how long must we wade throegh snow and slash f The M. D.’s have no riding to do here. The protraoled meeting closed last week, with quite an addition to tho onhroh and neighborhood deepiv impressed. It ia hoped much goo». was done. Superintendent tinoddv has been here looking after the schools, and eays “all is well.” Walker sohool ia a success with Soott Brown in charge. The •‘sin/rin’ skewl” has dosed and quiet is resVired to the neighborhood. No longer are the auricular appendages of the denizens of Kershraan City captivated by tbe melodious strains of harmonious disooid that were wont to float triumphantly out over neighboring frog ponds to the no little disgust of na’.lvo musicians Alas I poor Yoric ! The last noto is sung, the musical pedagogue has packed his kit, wrapped his mantle about him aud departed in seero’j of new worlds to conquer. Anna Brown’s sohooi, assisted by ■ the s, reoflntly "ave an exhibition in Walker school House. The stage wa* appropriately decorated. The programme was good and comprised many exoelleul pieces, and some not so good. The capacity of the room was tested most uucomfortsoiy. They were sitting, standing, and some piled up two or three deep. It is to be regretted that the vooal apparatus of many was out of regreater part of the exercises were inaudible to those far away from the performers, and the writer hereof was just so uncomfortably situated. A disposition to applaud the low, and pasa by the -ine unnoticed was too manifest. The Creole’s Defense was well rendered by Harry Gates but was received iu comparative silenoe, while a Dutch comedy, the Coon Hunt, was nprourously applauded, as was also a solo by Henry Sommers entitled When They are Flf een. Will some people never learn to appreoiate things at their true vorth ? iiev. Mr. Scott performed the mar- age ceremony, veiy solemnly—“ Two souls with but a single thought; two hearts that beatas on«r--wUb Itsnda asindependent members—“ Only this and nothing more.” Hala Wiloo::acted the part of Grandmother Cole splendidly. Minnie Olstein proved herself a perfect little prodigy in singing. Her last solo the house a deathlike s'.illness. “The Little Fellow,” by Mollie Brown, was indeed superior.. But the most conspicuous one was Jimmy, the cu. Lain drawer. «* Ex Tudacogci;.
