A painful suspicion occasionally flits over the minds of local politicians that the Remington Record is not being conducted with an eye single to the welfare of tho republican party; it is too loud in denunciation of popular rascality, and not sufficiently guarded in its manifestations of joy at the conviction of political thieves. It is sad, indeed! And were -it not for this singulur perversity our sister would be like the world in its .youth—very good. With the return of warm, pleasant days, candidates for county offices, who have bccD hibernating, come out from their dens to sun themselves and air their desires. As yet we have heard ot only ten persons who are anxious to perform the functions of the sheriff’s office and, if necessary, hang their fellowcitizens after election. Wouldn’t it be a good idea this season not to make any party nominations, but let the race bo made pelt inell—a sort of opeu-to-all dash?
We would advise all persons who are contemplating a trip to the West, either for pleasure or for permanent settlement, to first select the best and most direct route. R., via Quincy, to St. Joseph, Atchison and Kansas City, without change, making direct connections at these points with all trains for the West and South, should satisfy everyone that this is the route. Should you desire a map of this line, or any information regarding time or rates, the same will be gladly furnished upon application, either by letter or in person to T, Penfield, Gen.
