The Albany Evening Journal thus sums up the result of the late New York election: A Republican Comptroller (Denneston) elected by 43,000 majority. A Republican Treasurer (Dersheimer) elected by 47,000 majority. A Republican Attorney General (Myers) elected by 49,000 majority. A Republican Judge of Appeals (Davies) elected by 45,000 majority. A Republican Clerk of Appeals (Hughes) elected by 48,000 majority. A Republican State Prison Inspector(Forrest) elected over the united Democrat and American vote by 600 majority. A Republican Senate chosen by 35,000 majority. A Republican Assembly chosen by an equal or larger majority’.' On the other hand: A Democratic Secretary of State, Canal Commissioner, and State Engineer and Surveyor, barely elected by majorities ranging from 314 to 1,468, by the united vote of the Democrats and Americans.
