parson Brownlow on the Tennessee Canvass.
Parson Brownlow, who always says what he believes, thus speaks, in a recent letter, of tlie prospect of the Opposition in Tennessee: “If Netheriand’s friends beyond the mountains will do as they intend to do in East Tennessee, he will be the next Governor. We are working for Netherland and the cause, and will leave nothing undone that can be done, to rescue our tvtate from the grasp of Locofocoism. We shall gain in all the counties of East Tennessee—we shall exhibit our strength at the polls, and we shall consequently achieve a victory in these thirty counties, that will cheer our friends beyond the mountains, when they hear the result! “Our party intend to elect Caldwell in this county, and will do it. Sam. Smith is beat for Congress, and Brabson will fill his seat next winter. The whole state of things in East Tennessee are as we want them. Our gains for Governor will run up to five or six thousand, as compared with two years ago. In the Legislature we shall gain two Senato s and five Representatives, while we shall loose about one Representative, making a net gain of six members. As to Congress, we make no other calculotions than to carry all three of the Districts. I write you what I believe, and I write you over my proper signature. I am truly yours.
W. G. BROWNLOW.
