Poetry. THE CALICO DRESS. A fig for your “fashionable girls,” their velvets and satins and laces, Their diamonds, and rubies and pearls, And their milliner figures and faces; Thjey may shine at,a parly or ball, Emblazoned with half they possaas, En# give me in place of them all, My girl with tlho calico dress. She is plump as a partridge, and fair Is th« rose in the earliest bloom; teeth will wiith ivory compare, nd her breath with the clover perfume; ] step is as free and as light s the fawn's whom the ininterhard press; j 1 her eye?is ais soft und as bright—y girl with the calico dress. Ycjur dandies anil foplings may sneer At her simple and modest attire, But the charms she permits to appear 1 Would set a whole iceberg on fire. Shd can dance, blit she never allows The hugging, (the .squeezing and caress; She is saving all these for her spouse— 7 My girl with the calico dress. Shy iis cheerful, warm hearted and true, And kind to her father and mother. r Shfe studies hew much she can do ff'or her sweet-little sister and brother. Ifjyou want a companion for life, To comfort, enliven and bless, She is jiist the right sort ot'.a wife— My girl with the calico dress.
