The Story Contirmed —Statement of an Eye-witness—The Girl's History.
Brooklyn, Jun»> 1, 1859. A correspondent writes as follows to the New York Post: In your notice of a double-headed girl on exhibition in Georgia you expressed doubts '«* to the truth of the statement contained in the notice you published. One year ago this month I saw this child in S'. Louis. Mo. She is a slave, born in North Carolina. While an infant she was sold for SI,OOO. At the age of six or seven years she was sold again for #5,000. The ownei took the child to England and exhibited it to hundreds of thousands in the old world. The present owner bought its mother, went to England, and instituted legal proceedings in the name of the mother for the custody of the child. The resemblance which the child bore to the mother was so strongYhat the presiding judge directed it to be jgiven up to the mother, which was dune. The late owner then offered to deposit in court $50,000 to the ] of the mother if .she would commit the | child to him again, and remain with it her-] sell; for, by the laws of England, she and her ; child were free, but the offer was declined. “What should I do with so much money!”! said she; “I wish to rejurn with my child to North Carolina,” which she did by the way of New York. Her owner then asked the mother, in what manner she wished to live, and he would; conform to it. She asked for a little cottage ; and a patch of ground where she could raise her own chickens. There, says her master, she lives with her husjband and five other children which he has purchased. Two others were sold whjle-youjng, to a negro trader; and notwithstanding tliit the master of this valuable property has offered SSOO to know who the present ownef is of these two, no trace can be found of their whereabouts. 1 I never saw a more sprightly chill of Usage than this wonderful) twin child, which in ; fact is two children in everything but the! hotly. A little below \ the shoulder blade! there is but one spinal column; there are two heads and necks, two hearts and sets of lungs four arms and four legs—in short the child is as much two as one. The two heads converse w ith each other as do the Siamese' 1 Twins. They caff sing together or separately Fund can talk will different at the same time. Tfiis double creature can run ami dance, and appears perfectly happy. It was dressed when I siw it. in white, with a -crown on each head, with long flowing curling hair. The coiniilexion is a dark copper color, with bright fil 11 eyes, noticing all that takes glace in their presence. But furfear of emancipation the child would be taken North. It may not ire peculiar to these cases, but those receiving the charge, of electricity, when consciousness returned, thought they had been shot, and looked to see whence the ball came, no one thinking of lightning. We have often heard of the photographic power of electricity, but this is the only instance in which this phenomenon has been certified to us. It was mi the person of vwrng Nutt. On the front surface oi the thigh was indelibly impressed the perfect branch of a tree, leaves and all; and this jnot-withstanding the part was protected fry his pantaloons and drawers. Forney’s Press 'ms urj article on the •■Reputijlican Platform of 1800,” in which it is i strongly urged t hat the Wi lino! Proviso doc- 4 trine ought to he abandoned, and genuine! Popular Sovereignty accepted as more practicable, and more in accordance, with the ! sentiment ot the countryvat large. The Press says: “We see no reason why the people of the North shold complain otl the practical operation of the doctrine o! Popular Sovereignty. It made California a tree State, and it has settled,, beyond all doubt, that Kansas and Nebraska can never be slave States. It abolished slavery in seven of the thirteen original colonies, and it will prevent the establishment of slavery in all the unsettled Territories of the Unionj except those which may be occupied almost exclusively by slavehold ng emigrants, and which are peculiarly adapted to slave labor. It is founded upon the eternal principles of j. stice, and it will prevail in the future, as it has prevailed in the past, in spi'e of all the machinations of 'politicians against it, an 4 the quibbles, subteriuges, hair-splitting abstractions and frivo]ou pretexts upon whichjthey assail it. Respectably sanctioned by the American people, it will a ain and again be sanctioned by them, until no party shall dare to rise up in opposition to it, and until, zealots of all sections will be forced to acknowledge the futility if all efforts to undermine it.” This doctrine is the one virtually adopted by Gen. Taylor, in his “plan” for disposing of the question of slavery! in the Territories, and commended in liis first message. The tendenev of popular opinion is undoubtedly in favor of this policy. e' periments recently made at Grenoble, it has been found practicable to inclose a dispatch of fifty-two -words in a hollow' conical ball, the orifice being filled with wa\, arjd to fire it into thick planks, at a distance of one hundred and fifty metres, without injury to the writing. Thus a communication could be opened between one part of on army and another, where the use of messenger* would be dangerous or impossible.

Traveling from Kansas to Michigan to Whip a Man.
An incident occurred in Pittsford, Hillsdale county , a few days since, worth relating. A scoundrel by the n.mite of Perrin has been in the' habit, for a’number of years, of maltreating, whipping and otherwise abusing his wife, a highly accomplished, intelligent and beautiful woman. A brother of the lady , Fe<iding near El wood, Kansas, lately received a letter in which his sister’s sufferings were so vividly painted, that it at once aroused his long smothered indignation. Scarcely waiting to bid bis family good bye, Ibe hastened with all his speed oi steam and tide, in order to take the law in his own hands; or, in other words, in true Border Ruffian style, to.give the fellow a downright thrashing. This he accomplished to his entire satisfaction, and left with a promise to visit him again should occasion require it. He is now on his way home, with a happy I consciousness of duty done, and feeling, as | he says, more like a Christian than he did ! when he came. The knight of the cudgel is no Border Ruf- ! flan, hut on the contrary, is one of tiie j strongest advocates of the Jfe&pubiican prin- , ciples, while Perrin adheresTo modern Deiri- - ocracy and beautifully illustrates its princi- ! pies. Divorces in London. —The new Court of ; Divorce established in London appears to be pretty well occupied, some cig l t or ten : cases being settled daily, and still it is said that this Court has more arrearages than : any other Court in London. Daily a full column is occupied in the L.tnji >n journals in the revelation of great cruelty on the one side, and open, shameless infidelity on the ; other. Neither family, position nor means { appear to afford tiny guarantee for conjugal i propriety. The corn and potatoe crops of Jasper county promise well. Much of the fall • wheat has been winter-killed, while the spring wheat is doing fine.
