LATER FROM EUROPE.
NO BATTLE YET. New York, May 30. The steamship Hammonia, from Southampton on the 18th inst, arrived at this port this morning. Napoleon remained at Alessandra, busied with his generials in laying strategetical plans. The Piedmontes cavalry had fallen in with a detachment of Austrian hussars and made some prisoners. The had withdrawn from Voghiera to Castiglione. Austria has recognised the neutrality of the Papal States. The bridge at Stella has been threatened by the Austrians, who have workmen assembled there and at other points on the river Po, the waters of which were very high, in consequence of ihe late rains. The women and children are compelled to labor at the works by the brutal Austrians. Several Mayors of Sardinian towns, who refused to comply with the Austrian demands for contributions, have been arrested. Four Austrian merchant vessels have been captured by the French squadron. The inactivity of the troupe is accounted for by the fact that the rain continued to fall incessantly. Seine of the Austrian works had been damaged.
A dispatch from Berlin says that the Germanic Diet closed on the 14th by the Prince Regent, in person, who, in his s eech said, that Prussia was determined to maintain the balance of power in Europe, and stand up for the security and protection, and the national interests of Germany , and he expected that all the German con ted-.'rati ve powers would stand fi mly by her side in due lulltill ment of that mission. The mobilizition of the 8th federal Corps de Armie is completed. Prince Frederick William is commander-in-chief. The Austrian Government- loan of $75,000,000 is to be at five per cent, payable in silver, and will issue at seventy. London, Muy 17.—A dispatch from Rome says that the Duke De Grarnmont left that city on the 15th, in consequence of a telegraphic order from Vienna.
