IMPORTANT RAIL ROAD RUMORS.

It is stated upon good authority that the ! iron has been purchased, with which to finish the Rail Road located across the south [ end of this county. I It is also stated that a project is on foot to locate a road on an air line from Lafayl/ette to Chicago. Although this may prove to be only a rumor, it is worthy of being looked into upon the merits of the pr&ject itself. First let it be understood that the shortest line from Chicago to Cincinnati by rail road ■ will be in a few months, by way of Logansport instead of Indianapolis and Lafayette as ! heretofore. Second, the following railroads now- in operation are directly interested in securing a shorter route via Indianapolis to | Chicago than the above road through Lo- ■ gansport, viz: “Indianapolis & Lafayette,” :“Indianapolis &. Madison,” Indianapolis & ‘ Jeffersonville” and the following roads East ■ of Indianapolis, viz: “Lawrenceburgh,” “In- ' diana Central” and “BelfonVme.”" Not only ' are the above roads interested largely as [ things now stand, but this is to be an increasing interest. Third, Indianapolis and [ Lafayette will from this year 1859 certainly , decline or at least remain stationary unless ; this new route can be opened. * A word as to the route. By using the New Albany &. Salem road to the Battle Ground and then diverging, the cost of constructing a bridgejacross the Wabash can be saved. The whole route can be graded for .SSOO per mile. And now the money, fortunately for* this project it comes to us with the money in pocket. It is proposed to remove the iroti and rails from the New Albany road for the i construction of the new one. It has been suppose I that the “Michigan | Central” would object to this plan, but it is j now well understood by the knowing ones, I that this is the only way to make her inter- [ est in the Albany road worth anything. But the best ot all is the above plan is certain to be executed. So gentlemen farmers do,nt throw away your land. All we need : is an outlet to Chicago, the drain mart of the world. J.e

‘And it the above project is not immediately’’put motion, responsible men are expected to make arrangements with the “Cincinnati Logansport and Chicago” to run a branch road from Rensselaer to Valparaiso. A road we will have before July 4th 1860, or 1861 at fartherest.
