Re-election of Douglas.
A special dispatch to the Cincinnati Gazette, dated Springfield, the sth inst., gives the following particulars in reference, to the re-election 6f Douglas: “Long before the General Assembly met in joint session, at two o’clock this after- ■ noon, the gallaries were crowded with spectators of both sexes. A band was stationed outside the hall, and the Democratic headquarters were draped with the stars land stripes. 1 “When the roll was called every Representative was in The deepest excitement was exhibited in every counte- [ nance. 1 “Barrett, of Springfield, on nominating Douglas, attempted to make a speech, but was repeatedly called to order and obliged to give way. “Judd, of Chicago, then nominated Lincoln, when the roll was at once called. “The vote stood precisely as follows: Senate—Douglas, 14; Lincoln, 11. House Douglas, 40; Lincoln, 35. “This result was received with tremendous enthusiasm. The utmost confusion prevailed,, the lobbies yelling, galleries shrieking and bands playing. An adjournment was immediately made.” The dispatch to the Commercial says: “The announcement of this result was received with nine rousing cheers for Douglas. “Three cheers were also given for old Abe Lincoln. “The Douglas artillery is just thundering, and a long procession, with bands of music, | the multitude full of enthusiasm, parading the streets,”
