©CT'So long as God allows the vital current to flow through my veins, I will neves:, sever, NEVER, by word •or thought, |n r naind or will, aid in admitting one rood of free -. territory to the everlasting curs» of human bondage. —Henry Clay. ■ ; ) ■ • »- £U/”The extra session of the Legislature meets next Saturday. ° lUr'i ’he official average majority in Ohio is 20,966. % ‘ (U7“The most of the articles in this issue were prepared for last week, whlfch.will account for the inaccuracies of-the dates. Willard has appointed Hon. Cyrus L. Dunham, of Jackson county, Secretary of State of Indiana, in place of D. McClure, resigned. - ■ ; ... ■ \ ; . (U7”The mail, through mismanagement of the new carrier, did not go to Bradford last Monday morning. This is a bad beginning, and augurs no good for the future. were unable to Issue the Gazette last week for want of paper. We sent the money for it three different times, but could not hear of either it or the paper. Finally, we went down to Lafayette this week and procured paper. CU7“ , Fhe reader will find an advertisement - of Messrs. W. J. and J. W. Laßue in this week’s issue. They have received a large stock of dry goods and groceries, and are selling them cheaper than they have been sold in this tow,n for some time. They have made a large reduction in the price of groceries, to our certain knowledge. 1 CKTAn article will be found in another column, from the pen of Mr. Ezra Wright, giving a fair explanation of the Court House affair, concerning which so many untruthful statements were made'on the eve of the laye election, merely for political effect. Let the reader remember those who got up the false statements, and mark them in the future. Whatever they may sav hereafter of a political nature should be backed up by unimpeachable testimony before they are " believed. (U7”The shade-tree meeting last Saturday night, owing to the exceedingly bad weather, was not largely attended; but those who were present evinced sufficient public spirit to effect what they attempt. The proceedings will be found in another column. If the committe to which the matter is intrusted of engineering the corporation to a final issue, do the preliminary work this week, the matter can he laid before the Board of County Commissioners at its next term, the first Monday in December. Go ahead, gentlemen—glory and lamp await you. Those unfortunate person buried beneath the mud in the streets of Rensselaer cry aloud for vengeance. o^7"We call the attention of our readers in general, and of the afflicted in particular, to the advertisement of Bragg d{, Burrowes, in another column. The Arctic Liniament, prepared by Dr. Bragg, is recommened as the best article of,the kind in the world, and we believe is destined to supersede all similar preparations. It has but recently been introduced to the public, but has long been successfully used in private practice) and was thoroughly tested and approved by the late Dr. Kane on the Grinnell Arctic Expedition. Dr. Bragg has for years enjoyed a well-earned and widely extended reputation for his medical preparations, which is of itself a sufficient guaranty of the value of the article now advertised. CU7”We learn that Dr. Wtn. 11. Martin, of this place, and W. Rowing, Esq., of the Rushvil/e Republican, will be urged by their friends for the respective positions of First and Second Clerks of the Indiana Housed Representatives. Dr. Martin is a gentleman and a scholar, well qualified to fill the office of First Clerk; and his election would gratify a large circle of friends, who fully appreciate his integrity and personal worth. We hope that our Representative, Mr. Snyder, his party being in the minority in the House, will throw his influence tor his fel-low-townsman, Dr. Martin. As to Mr. Rowing, we do not know him personally, but judging from the firm and manly position taken by the Republican on the politics of it»» d.ij. iie is a high-minded gentleman, and deserves the support of his friends.
