“Pass Out That Box.”
At three o’clock on mondav morning, as the stage from San Juan reached the summit of Forest City Hill, the lead horses were taken by the bits by a man with s i drawn pistol, which he brought to bear on the driver, and told Inn to pass out the ex-press-box to two other men, who came up. The mail-bag was thrown out. but that was kicked as;il“, with the remark that they wanted tile express-box. The box was passed ; over to them, and the tw T o then went to the doors ot the coach, in which were eight men and one woman, and demanded any dust or coin that the passengers might have. The man at the head of the hordes sang out to his partners that a passenger on the back seat had holsters, with dust, under the cushion. This remark his partners seemed not to heir, but, being assured by a passenger that positively all the treasure belonging to the party was in the box they already had, the two left, telling the forward man all was right. He accordingly let go the horses, and told the driver to leave. A man named N ichols, a gold-dust buyer, had about §15,000 in dust in holsters under tiro cushion of the i bactc seat, as described, but by a misunderstanding the highwaymen missed it and Nichols got oIT seott-free. No trace of-the robbers has ben found. There was no treasure in the box, and the mail-bag was afterj'.wardßound. —Sierra ( Cal .) Democrat.
