I'll Vote for the Other Man.
The; following story is told of a revolui tionary soldier who was running for Congress. It appears that he was opposed by*a much younger man, who had never ••been in the wars,” and it was the wont of “Revolutionary” to tell the people of the hardships he endured. Says he: “Fellow-citizens, I have sou ght and bled for my country —I helped whip the British and Italians. 1 have slept upon the field of ; battle, with no oilier covering but the cano,py of heaven. I have walked over frozen ground till every footstep was marked with blood Just about this time, one of the •■sovor- ! eigns,” who had become very much affected by this talb us woe, walks up in front of the ; speaker, wiping the fears from lus eyes | with the extremity of his coat-tail, and iu- | terrupting him, sa.ys: “Did you stiy that you had fought the j British and the Injines!” . j “ Yes,” responded Revolutionary. 1 “Did you say that you had slept oil the ! ground While serving your country without , any kiver!” “Yes, sir, I did.” ‘Did you say you had followed the enemy of your country over frozen ground till ever}’ footstep was marked with blood!” “Yes,” exultihgly replied the speaker. “ Well, then,” says the tearful “sovereign,” as he gave a sigh of painful emotion, “I’ll be blamed it I don’t think you’ve done enough far your country, and I’ll vote for the other man!”
od!7”Tvvo unsophisticated country lasses visited Niblo’s in New York during' the bul- ! let season. When the short-skirted, gossa-jmcr-clad nymphs made their appearance on ! the stage, they became restless and tidgetty. “Oh, A.nnie!” exclaimed one sotlo voce. “Well, Mary. 1 ” “It ain’t nice—l don't like it.” “Ilush, the folks will notice you.” “I don’t care; it ain't nice, and I wonder aunt brought us to such a place. ’ . “Hush, Mary the folks will laugh at you.” i Alter one or two flings and a pirouette, the blushing Mary again said: “Oh, Annie! let’s go—it ain’t nice, and I don’t feel comfortable.” “Do hush. Mary,” replied the sister, whose I own lace was scarlet, though it wore ail air of determination; “Its the first time I ever was at a theater, and I suppose it will he; the last, so I am going to slay it out, if they dance every ray of their backs!' Hours Coin. —lt is stated that as much as .$ 10,000 worth of bogus coin is issued every month at Iloosae, a few miles from Troy, New York.
