RENSSELAER) IND. - ---- PIt()SPECTl T S Of tiie Thirty-seventh Volume of THE INDIANA STATE JOURNAL. ITHE JOURNAL is now entering its Thirty- . seventh Volume. It was established in 1822, and is the oldest paper in Indiana. It is equal in age to tiie cil v of Indiiltiapolis, and Is nearly as old as our Slate government. It was established when Indiana was little else thau_ij wilderness, and when Indiana scarcely existed except, in n i me. Il lias lived and grown upon its own ineri's, s.■ldo 11 receiviqg oiiiei.al patronage, or governmental.favors. Its n ime is a “household word” throughout the length and breadth of the Slat.’, and Hs position upon all public matters—political or otbcTwise—is so well known that’’ anything said intfeferoiice to its course upon any of t ie questions now befdre th > people would be superfluous. The Journal will continue Li advocate the great Principle of freedom, and give" its support to the Republican party,"as the -party of the people— cling with the party wlreu right, and repudiating it when wrong —but it will be for the coming year more of a family paper that it has ever yet been, and b • made more acceptable to the general reader than a purely political pdper could be. . . _ The session of Congress .u nder a new administration is always fraught with 'ildre 'of less importance to the welfare of the ci uutrv,’and'th<s’ present session will be looked upon with feelings of peculiar intere-l.
