LECOMPTONISM AND CORRUPTION CLEANED OUT.
[From the Cincinnati Gazette.
Ohio Stands Erect for Freedom. BUCHANAN REPUDIATED IN PENNSYLVANIA. GOOD NEWS FROM INDIANA.
Ohio has given.her verdict on the course of the National Administration. The people have passed judgment on their faithless Lecompton Representatives. The c hies interest, through the State at large, has centered upon the Congressional elections. The State ticket has been, in a measure, lost [ sight of, though the opposition candidates [are undoubtedly chosen, and probably by a | majority of from twelve, to fifteen thousand. In Hamilton county there was also a sharp contest for the* local ascendency, resulting in a decisive defeat of the Buchanan De- ’ mocracy. The effect of this revolution, on the future, imparts to it a consequence altogether beyond that of any other merely lo- | cal contest, and makes it a just cause for rejoicing to the opposition everywhere. It is !a defeat which will bp sorely felt, even by the autocrat at Washington, and his minions Lin other States. [ The Congressional elections, we are confident, will result in a decided loss to the Administration, in the delegation to the House of Representatives from this State in the next Congress. Mr. Groesbeck has paid the penalty of his fatal submission to the dictation of an unscrupulous partisan Executive. Mr. Gurley, a staunch and true .. Anti-Administration mail, succeeds him. If I Mr. Pendleton has; escaped a like fate, it is by a close vote. He has at least been signally rebuked by his constituents. If returned now by a bare majority, his hard experience may afford him a wholesome lesson for the future. Mr. Day made an excellent run. He is, if defeated, much nearer an election than his most sanguine friejmls, a few weeks ago, could have hoped. From the other districts, we have yet only i scattering'returns, which will be ‘found under the telegraphic head. W,e ‘trust there ; will be several other changes adverse to the ; Administration, as well as in Hamilton 1 county. The returns from Pennsylvania point un- | mistakably to an overwhelmning defeat of ' the adherents of Buchanan, in his own State. Large gains to the. opposition are reported from various points. Am immense majority for the People’s ticket is certain. We look, also, for a gain of several Congressmen. Our dispatches from Indiana indicate the gain of a Congressman in the Indianpiilis [district. In the 'Third (Hughes') District, [ the vote is reported close.
