Death Claims Her Own.
Elijah Culp an old and esteemed citizen of Lee, fell dead on the street in Rensselaer, in front of the residence of Wm. Childers last Friday. He has had heart trouble for some years, an attack of which caused his death. He had been visiting relatives and on Friday took dinner with his nieces, the Misses Culp. After dinner he concluded to go down town and stopped in front of Mr. Childer’s residence and enquired which was the nearest road when he suddenly fell forward and expired before medical aid arrived. Mr. Culp was bom in Virginia in 1809 and his age was 89 years, 6 months and 18 days. He came to Hanging Grove township when there were but few settlers in the county and afterward purchased a farm near Lee. He leaves two sons, David Culp of Hanging Grove and George Culp of White county, and four daughters, Mrs. Thomas Smith of this city, Mrs. Wesley Noland and Miss Hannah Culp of Lee, and Mrs. Geo. Meadows of Illinois. He was a brother of James Culp of Lee, better keown as “Unde Jimmie Culp” by our citizens. His was held at his residence near Lee, Sunday forenoon, Rev. B. F.
