Egypt Cemetery Notice.
All those interested in the Egypt cemetery are requested to pay their annual cleaning fees to Frank Welsh, Marcus Reed or D. W. Waymire, or at the Rensselaer banks. Prompt compliance with this request will be appreciated. - V
Several of the usury cases which were originally filed in this', county and venued to some other : county and finally demurred out !of court have been compromised. The recent of the Supreme court on the matter of usury interest did much to bring about the settlement. Putman, son of Edward Putman, who lives on the Crisler farm, three miles northwest of Surrey was drowned in Murphy’s pool, two miles northeast of Surrey Monday evening. He with two companions were in swimming when he was seized with the cramps. His companions attempted to rescue him and one of them was seized by the drowning man and came near losing his own life in the attempt. The body was aot recovered until 2 o’clock, Tuesday morning. He was an excellent young man and was respected by all who knew him. His funeral was held at North Star in Newton county, near his former home, Rev. W. H. Sayler conducting the ceremonies. He was a member of the F. W. Baptist church, having united with that church last January. His age was 19 years, 9 months and 26 days. Interment was in North Star cemetery several miles northwest of Mt. Ayr.
