Hanley reports that tbs business of the Circuit Court at Kentland is running along smoothly, and there is uo friction between ( the court and bar at that plaoe. Mrs. G. H. Landis returned to her home at Delphi Tuesday aftaO a weeks visit with relatives in Btbf city. J. E. Alter the County surveyor has quite a collection of shells and curiosities in his office in the court house. One uoticable feAr ture of the collection is a lot of Indian relics. An old pipe found in the hill near McCoysburg is worth a days drive to see, The Catholic order of Foresters will give an entertainment at Roto ert’s Hall on the * evening of June 9th. Nowels is another of the enterprising settlers in Powers county. He came here in 1888 from Jasper county, Indiana, and has ever since followed his chosen proffession, that of an attorney. He served ns receiver of the United States Laud office from 1894 to 1897, owns considerable property in the county, and erected a tine residence in 1895 costing S3,(XX).

Malchow went to Monticello Thursday to visit with Mrs. L. W. Repragle. Mrs. Emerine Israel is visiting with her son, David E. Israel at Lafayette this week. The Brazilian minister startled the country Wednesday by suggesting one vast republic embracing all the western hemisphere. A pair of twin boys born to Mr* and Mrs. J. R. Guild of Pulaski oounty have been named Sampson and Dewey. A little girl of Joseph Putts two miles south of town was kicked by a horse Tuesday and had her knee joint dislocated. Dr. Berkley was called to attend the case. ‘to . A. B. Long of Union township called at the Democrat office Tuesday. He reports an excellent prospects for good cropain his locality. Miss Ora Duvall and Mrs. Mattie Hemkle represented the Daughters of Rebekah at the Grand' Ixxlge at Indianapolis, .last Monday and Tuesday. Henderson the oil man went to Chicago Thursday. Sears of Indinapolis will deliver the Memorial day I oration at this place. Mr. Sears j has quite a reputation as an orator j and the committee was lucky to ! secure him.
The Democratic Congressional j convention will be held in Ellis' j Opera House on June 18. The | apportionment is one delegate for each 100 votes and one for each fraction over 50 votes cast for B. Ollttd Tribune. Judge S. P. Thompson was 60 years old last Saturday and a select party of his friends gathered at his home in Rensselaer to give h6nor to the occasion. The Jasper county bar went to the house in a body to oongratulate him. Time has dealt frostily but kindly with .the judge. How distinctly do we remember a score of years ago or ||gre when he came “courtin’ ” one In Oxford’s fairest daughters. His regular vfants to the school were always welcome; his presence would soften the harsh rules of discipline and the afternoons would be' an oasis to the hearts of the boys.
