We have but little doubt that Ilriek INuneroy, of the La Crosse IVmoerat, is telling the truth. The fact is, Jiriek wanted office for hi.service in advising Moses and his friends to assassinate Lincoln, and now that Moses has "faced" on the scoundrel, he is telling tales out of school; for which the Herald calls him an idiot. : - a ADMIXTtJItl! This, if true, would indicate that planters drove the negro women to the Mississippi river to meet the Northern flatboatnicn. We supposo the Horald editors understand how the thing wa.s done, therefore, would like to enquire if they were ever engaged in Mat-boating? II I they were, then there may be some truth in their abortion, und they know whereof they speak. Letter from Father McMahon. The following letter was kindly furnished us by AV. D. Frazeo forj publication. Thoe who have been anxious for the welfare of the JJev. Father McMahon, can learn his exact condition from the following: Military Phison, Toronto. I suppose that ere this yon have read the full account of my trial and conviction, and my sentence of death. Comment 13 now unnecessary. I had the form of a trial, but the jury were satisfied with the evidence. The Judge told them tho Crown made out their case. I offered nn vldnni-o Mvi.nwnrU,Ai, a . u mhv. . i .a i V äi 11 k iv entirely useless to oiler any, and as a matter of course, I was at once convicted. Under the advice of the American Consul, I intend applying for a new trial, which I hope will be granted. I thiuk 1 will then be enabled to prove ray innocence. I perceive that the Kentenee on Colonel Lynch and myself caused much indignation in he United States. I am glad public expression has been against tho course of the Canadian Government on this question; and it is a source of pleas ure to .Colonel Lynch and myself to find that wc have tho entire smna thy of the American Government and people. But I would recommend that this

It would tend to irritate the people here; find if the government arc inclined to be merciful, they-might not like to Le consiierci as forced into it. In this (hey are wrong, for should they execute Colonel Lynch and myself, there id hardly a question but a, terrible retaliation would be the 'consequence; a war would would be lost to Great Uritain, and no person can conjecture the ulnount of suffcrinS it would entail on both countries. Therefore, the wisest course for our friends is to await the mediation of our Government in our behalf. I was then? a non-combatant, as Chaplin. Col. Lynch, tho reporter of a public journal, and being in Canada with no hostile intention, was also a noncombatant. Thus the matter stands, and we await anxiously the action of our Government. I am in ood health, and receive the greatest attention from the Gov ernor and his official?. Let none of my friends be uneasy about me in that respect. It is reported in the United States that we aro treated badly. Special Corre.paadence tu Randolph Journal There has been continued rain for a few days which I presume will close up the dry weather this year. Now is the proper time to finish up the fall work and see that the stock h started through the winter in .rjoo.l conditio:.. If anv of the sheds, barns or other buildings need repair, see that it is done before cold weather sets in; and have the plows harrows and other implement. gathered up and housed, and not left to bide the storm of winter, whero they will take more damage by o'iosu.re than they will by a season's use in the Held. As the -umniur and fall were the seasons to make and gather, so is thisthe time to economise and save. The sucessful farmer will be making observations on the best methods of feeding stock; what is the most protitable to keep over winter, and what should bo disposed of in the fall. This is also the proper reason to look out for the seeds and plant that will bo 'wanted next spring, secure the best kind of seed corn, tnd see that it is whero it will keep safely through the winter.
