Unionism as this! Such men are Unionists in theory but traitors in practice. Thesemen are about as consistent in their nc groism as in their Unionism. They bate the nigger in theory, but love him in practice. They turn spotted with rage at the mere mention of a Union nigger regiment, well knowing, at the same time, tli3t for every auch regiment refused, one thousand white men must go an substitutes lor these same niggers. If these quasi Union men were the natural-bom paternal guardians of these negro regiment, they could not exhibit more intense tenderness for them than they are now doing. Uut while these fellows are devoting so much time to the personal salety of the negro, they are equally solicitous about the political welfare of their poor, ignorant white constituents, whom they evidently consider unlit even to exercise the right of sulbage without special instructions from them. True, they admit tint white men ought to vote, but they claim that they the precious politicians should first hold a little caucus, and tell thin who to vote
for! oh, yes! the people can vote, if they will only wait till we tell them how, and when, and where, and who to vote for, but as to their knowing enough to select their own candidates, tint is simply preposterous. We have tried the people on that question to our entire dissatislaction. We are willing, siy they, that you should vott a little, but not for such a big ollieer as Congressman. You must pick out some of your intelligent men your lawyers, and doctor?, and deputy postmasters and send them up to Cambridge they'll tell y iu who to vote for.1' Tried Representatives. The Union men in the North are doing w isely in re nominating to Congress the men who have been tried and proven. Among others wo notice with pleasure the nomination of Schuyler Collax. A people who have sulletvd so terribly Irom treachery and wea- ness in tho.-e they have elected to power, would be unwise to t 1 11 UllUW .IMUO UH'M- Wim 1 ed la;t!ilul The UM;) nj positive tj'l.'tlit' ', l! lb k, I ;t 'kliDiif .iinl 1 m Alt'.t ol .'till aih"s win) "in, ,Tf v de.-irv tot imilir Ur a Morons proM cution i ol iho u.ir. uill unite on tlio-c who !i n tliou n tl.tr mibt vior nti tlcterimnnlioa, ami thr h-.'-t t P I f I'' 1 .1 1 1 0 i.
