The Alton, 111. Telegraph gives a painfully minute account of the late burning of the 'mulatto at St. Louis for the murder of a Mr. Hammond a Sheriff. The Tele

graph says: All was silent as death, while the executioners were piling the wood around

their victim, lie said not a word, probably feeling that it would be entirely vain, until the flames had seized upon him. He then uttered an awful howl, attempted to sing and pray, and then hung his head and suffered in silence, except in the following instance. After the flames had completely sur rounded their prey, and when his
