CRAWFORDSVILLE RECORD.

. r XAS. Extract from n! J::cr dated, Bra os, March 17, 1836. Dearsir: V haw just received (he news ol the fill of the Alimo, the fort at San Antonio, and our brave fellows who were in it to the number of 180 men, cernmanded bv col. Travis, on the "25ih of February. '1 he Mexican army, atnouming to four or five thousand, commenced iheir attack; in a few

'davs afterward they attempied to

storm it, hut was r pulsed with the loss of five or six hundred men. On he Gth ultimo they made a successful attack and carried. Our poor it-Hows died fighting to the last moment, when all were killed but; seven; they offered to surrender; but Santa Anna would sufier no quarters to be shown them. They then renewed the fiht, and spent their last moments (or the good ol Texas. Our citizens assembled at Gonzalez under general Houston, to the number ol GOO, ami were hourly reinforcing for the purpose of relieving our poor fellows who were at San Antonio, but unfortunately it was too late. The Alex ican army to about 8000, made their appearance near Gonzalez when our men burnt the place, and

are retiring to the Colorado river to be reinforced, where a general engagement will probably take place, which may decide the fate of Texas. There is a good deal of chivalry in Texas they will spill their blood freely. But whether a superiority of force will not prevail, and we share the fate of unhappy Poland, will fthonlv be determined.

Much consternation and alarm,

on account of the helpless women and children, is evident on every countenance, a? they have evinced thus far a cruelty and barbarity unknown in savage warfare I allude to the cruel murdering of the men under col. Johnson, after a capitulation had taken place, and they had surrendered their arms. The particulars of the storming of the Alimo is given by col. Travis servant, who was badly wonndd iMiC i woman who was present on the occasion the only two liv-
