Key &, Hryce addressed the people, assuring them that Crandall should be punished if they would suffer the trial to progress. The examining court had to be held in jail with iberioors locked and a company ol marines had been ordered to guard the jail.

Wit and humor. Harrison, of Virginia,ihe father ot gen. Harrison, one of the signers of the declaration of independence, was a very large man after affixing his name to that memorable instrument he turned to Eldridge Gerry, w ho was very thin and slender, and said, "when the time for hanging comes I shall have the advantage of you : it will be over with me m a minute, but you will be kicking in the air half an hour after I am sone.,,

Virtues of the tomato. A medical prolossor in one of the colleges oi the west speaks warmly in

favor of the virtues ol the tomato.

He says of it, that in all those alloc

tions of the liver, where calomel is

indicated , it is probably the most

effective, and least harmful reme

dial agent known to the profession. That a calomel extract will probably soon be obtained from it which will altogether supersede the tise of calomel in the cure of disease. That he has successfully treated serious diarrhoea with this article alone. That when used as an article of diet, it is almost a sovereign rem

edy of dyspepsia, or indigestion. That persons removing from the east or north, to the west or south, should by all means make use of it

as an aliment, as it would, in that event, save them from the danger attendant upon those violent bilious attacks to which almost all unacelimated persons arc liable. That the citizens in general should

make use of it, either raw, cooked,

or in form of catsup with their dai

I had sold, and taken a mortgage on inein iur the purchase money. The purchaser had sold a part of one of the lots to one Daniel Gorman, who by will left it to his two sons, Thomas and Hugh Gorman. I made verbal assurances to said Thomas and Hugh, if I should succeed in obtaining from the lots, more than the amount of my debt and interest that I would make them an allowance. The lots are still unsold, but are of fur greater value than the amount of my debt and interest; and I hold myself responsible to redeem my promise to said Thomas and Hugh, or their heirs, if dead. They left Cincinnati some twelve or more years since, and settled in Ohio or Indiana. They were both extremei
