The revenue cutter Ingham, on the New Orleans station, has had a brush with the Mexican (government) schooner Montezuma commenced . by the latter, (a fast sailer,) but who, finally, thought it most safe to run among the breakers, and seek safety at Brazos St. Yago after firing a few shots. brought by the steam packet Columbia, ar
rived here this morning, has come, not merely laden, but literally ovcrburthened, with

"jeCTOTICE is hereby given that the three JLNJ per cent, fund accruing from the sales of public lands in Indiana, for the year 1834, is received at this office, and is ready for disbursement to the commissioners of the proper county entiled to receive the same. To those counties from which no appro
priation was made for the "improvement of
the navigation of the W abash river,'' there is apportioned from this year's receipts the sum
of $391 33-100 to each county. The apportionment to the sime counties of S119!
each, last year, is also m readiness for those counties that have not drawn. To those counties from which there was $112 50-100 taken for the Wabash, there is now in readiness $397 83-100 each. And to the county of Miami the sum of $308 38-100. The foregoing sums do not embrace the undrawn appropriatons of 1833, and previous years, which may likewise be drawn by the persons properly authorized to receive the same. N. B. abuse of the privilege of the public mail, to use it as a vehicle for conveying and scat
tering in every direction over the soutli and
west the moral poison with which these pub
lications are drugget!. Some mode of pre
vention should be adopted to abate this nui
sance. If the mail can not be purged of this pernicious stuff", with which it is frequently
ireighted, in no other way, let soma meas
ures be adopted, by requesting those whose interest is identical with ours, in places where
these papers and tracts are addressed, to pre
vent their circulation within their limits. If
the general post office is not at liberty to act in this matter, it is impossible to answer for
the security of the mail in ibis portion of the
country, which contains such poisonous and

The abolitionists. We received this week the first number of another seditious and in
flammatory sheet, entitled "Human Rights,"
printed in the city of New York, at 25 cents
per annum 20 yearly, to one address, at 174
cents 40 at 124 cents and SO at 10 cents!!
It is one of the most incendiary publications
we have perused, and its evident tendency is
to promote a servile war.

If the north and east are sincere in what iliey call their opposition to the fanatics, let them give us a tangible evidence of the fact, by making penal the incendiary efforts with which we are alarmingly menaced. Until this is done, we shall repose very little confidence in the sincerity of their declaration, that they
are opposed to interference with our munici
pal rights. The whole country is flooded
with their vile incendiary pamphlets and
handbills, many ot them circulated no
doubt by their friends and emissaries, who
live or are traveling among us, and if our peo
pie do not quickly take some energetic measures to put a stop to these things, their own common sense must tell them, if persisted in, what must soon be the consequences.

The New York Commercial Advertiser,
announcing the refusal of General Harbi
son to permit his name to be used as a can
