All the above are returned soldiers. Dr. J. S. Monteith, who has also returned from the armv, has bought a horse for 317Ö, and is now prepared to resume his former practice. We have of late noticed some splendid fields of com. The ears in a few fields, on an average, are as high as a man's head, and we noticed i some ears as high as a man could reach. Wheat threshing is progressing as fast as the wet weather will admit, I but as a general thing the yield is 'light and of an interior quality. Governor Sharkey examined into the loyalty and fpnlificalions of the members elect, after which the Convention was permanently organized, and adjourned without j transacting any business of impor tance. . Dispatches Irom Detroit give the particulars of a terrible disaster which occurred on Wednesday evening on Lake Huron, six miles from shore. A collision took place between the steamers Meteor and Pewabic, by which the latter was so badly' injured that she sunk in about four minutes, carrying down with her many of ber passengers and crew. Tun carpenter work of Mr. Klinck's fine residence, on the corner of Franklin and West streets, is now completed, and we think Mr. Klinck can certainly feel proud of it, for it certainly stands equal if not above anv house in Winchester. Andrew J. Favorite was the principal workman, and is entitled to the patronage of the people of this place. We recommend all persons who are interested in pood work to call and examine Mr. Klinck's house, as he will take pleasure in your calling for that purpose.
