The Teachers' Association, at Muncio, on Saturday, was a success. There is a growing interest in educa tional matters anion ir the teachers of Delaware county. 1. Hiatt. For the Journal. ii:i:ifii:li htm. Our fourth quarterly meeting commenced last Saturday, and is still in progress. Itrothcr Whiteman, from Camden, was here to (ill the Killer's place. He is an able preacher, and j there seems to be quite an interest manifested in the minds of the people, for the welfare of the church. A public collection was raised on Sabbath for the support of the min ister, and tf'JlJ was the result. Three persons joined on probation. There is still considerable sickness among the children in and around town; there are a few cases of smallpox a mile north of town. The minds of the people are still excited about the draft, as it is not certain yet that the township will be cleared. I do not know how our people will feel in regard to the vote in Congress on the slavery question, as many contend that slavery is authorized by a decree of the Kternal, and is in accordance with the teachings of the Holy Scriptures. Their glasses must rellect a d liferent light from the majority of the people when reading the Scriptures. It is time that the citizens of these United States consider this matter candidly, and earnestly; and it is to be hoped that the cause of this rebellion may be buried so tleep. that there will be no possible chance for resurrection. J. S. K. Fur the Journal. Washington Township .:us. Sergeant Kli Stakebake, eompatvy C, Mih Indiana, has returned home, having been mustered ut of the service by the regiment being consolidated. He has been in all the lights and marches that the regiment has been in following the llag of his country faithfully, until honorably discharged. The prospect is bright for this township to II 1 1 its quota by volunteering. Much praise is due Ksquire Johnson for aiding when not subject to military duty. Pleasant Pales, late of this township, was a strong Cniou man; all of his boys, except two, are in the service, and one of these put a substitute iu the field. It is currently reported here, that the friends of the late Ksquire Nichols could not find his body. He was a Justice of the Peace when he went iuto the service.
