Since their captivity their fnte Ins l.'cen involved in mvsterv. Nothing oiiicial could he learned concerning; them, and from the well known vi ndit tiveness of the rebel military authorities, the worst wa.s aj-pre-hended. Information has heen received at the War Department, b' way of IYxas, s-tating tint tluvc apprehen sions were too well founded. It ap pears tint the prisoners were con veyed into the country several miles nnd placed in close confinement. olliecrs were taken out at tlead of night and th word given out that they had escaped. It now appears that they were handed without anv i(m; nfUirc 0f fivon a J. blance of trial, in obedience to a secret order from the rebel Secretary of War. A few davs after ward the other prisoners also disappeared mystcriotply, and there is no doubt that they also were secretly murdered hy direction of the Richmond authorities. What retaliation shall be inflicted for these mo.d barbarous atrocities is vet to be determined. It docs not appear a yet thai any colored soldier has yet fallen info the hands of the rebel who was not either put to death on the spot or Mibsctpientlv assassinated in secret by order from Richmond. iV.
