We have heard the proposition rtiad by a number of our best citizens to hart road tHrtifct No. 00, comprising the town of Plymouth, divided into five districts, making each ward a district We til Ink the idea a good one, as the district is now too bfga and the work would doubtless pive better satisfaction under the divis ion. The disappointed osdirants arc now relieved from further anxiety, and are d.mbt es at liberty to return to their various vocations, reflecting on the uncrtainty of all human calculations. Attf m i'tk i T?rBBKRY. A few days sisce the following circumstance transpired on an eastward bound train while nearing riyraoutli. A gentleman occupying a front car was approached by a disciple of Robin Hood, inquiring his-destination. On being informed by the gentleman hat Plymouth wis hi stopping-place. the mealy-mouthed robber informed him that he must go to the rear car, whk h in unction he reluctantly obeyed. Having arrived at the hindmost car, which proved to be a sleeping car, he found it locked, and turned to retrace his steps. On turning around, what was his horror on beii.r: confronted by a man with an open knife. Rtrnt was cut off, flight was impossible. The man with the knife made a dive at him, cutting his raiment in such a man ner as ts expose his pocket book which evidently, was the article of contention. Help was solicited in a loud voice. The object of the miscfeant was, doubtless, to obtain the money and hurl his victim be ncath the car wheels- Failing in this, he jumped from the car, giving his victim a hard pitsh, who, luckily, uuigkt ai' h4d on the railing of the platform- i aodv riotudy hurt. attempt to picture unrealities, transpired

or. Monday evening last. An attempt to engrave on the mind transact ons of the heavenly hosts, and scenes in hell, regardless of their labulous meaning. How long must mankind be cur bed b- teachers who by word and art stamp upon the mind pictures of Hades, Lucifer, brimstone and red-hot chains? Now and then a man introduces a new doctrine, and by artful word and fair-looking ar.' ment gains a few followers, gtow in numbers, and stake their destinies on thoir particular belief. We allude to Mohammed, Joe Smith, "Wesley and Thomas Paine. Four radical believer and in main doctrine, antagonistic. Of these, three out of the four must be wrong, and we cannot cndotseeither. One claims a hell, the other repudiates it ; one is conscientiously a bigamist, and the other conscientiously believes the bigamist will swelter in an orthodox hell, while the third aflmns there is no hell. Now comes the Miltonian tableaux and represents horses in heaven and hell, and we wonder if, indeed, horses have souls. Next wages warm the battle between the heavenly hosts and revolters on the opposite side. This battle must have been a farce if the contest was undoubtful, and if the contest was a doubtful nc, what if heaven had been overthrown? But fortunately Satan, with his infernal machines got " dusted out ." Satan now tells Iiis followers to " never say die," and proceeds to earth to find recruits, among the first cf whom were our revered parents, Ai. and Evaline. Satan takes on the form of a serpent ; why he took up his alxxle in such a slimy tabernacle, we are at a loss to understand, but nevertheless he tempted Kvc to pluck the forbidden fruit, and that bcini; an apple, of course, (wc see the core in man's ihroat) there is little room to doubt that it was a Rhode Island greening. The Foregoing suppositions arc all en titled to about an equal proportion of credence. The "Rivers of Brass the "Streets of Oold," etc., are sublime iniag enings, but ridiculously nonsensical. Lkuiov. The following appears editoriallj in last weeks Republican, except the " chagrin" the " remembering," the 41 charge" and we are personally unacquainted .vith the " man" who challenged another to fight a duel, the article is lucid enough, and a good thing, not requiring any comment. ix vocble.
