TBTBSDJLT, BEP. 21. 1868. THE NATIONAL BANKS. The radical party is virtually pledged to sustain the infamous swindle called the " national banking system." Now what interest have ike people iu thin matter ? Simply this : Congress legislated all bank t out of existence and established the i national banking pysteai on this principle, briefly stated : The capitalists deposit with the government 330 millions of bonds, and receive in turn the right to bene 500 millions of national ba&k uotes; the-e note- are put out und Bled as the currency of the country, and the government pays the depositor his six per cent. . in gold on the bor.ds lie deposits, and he j keeps the notes loaned at 10 and 12 per ; cent, and receives an exemption from taxation on his bonds worth at least twj per cent, more, mating his money worth to him in a legal money over twenty per cent, and the government pays him $18,000,000 in gold annually, when it tkould not pay one cent, tot if the national banking system were abolished, tieasury Dotei or greenbacks would would take the place of the national bank notes, be just as good, and even better, and give the government the benefit of the circulation which the! banker makes worth twelve per cent, to him, and which would be worth six per ccut. in gold to the government, as with the circulation it couii redeem interest bearing bonds.
