Oxe and TiritEE! The changes that have taken place in our town within three or four years, are quite wonderful, andarc spoken of with some priJe by our inhabitants, but the most remarkable are those in connection with one and three, Michigan street, (Westervclt's Block,) from the quit test place in town it has become the most lively. In Xo. 1 is the I'ostoilice which draws its crowd? daily, also a Xcws oPJco ; above is Dr. Jacoby's office, and the Hebrew school and Synagogue; opposite are the rooms of Dr. and Dentist Dorton ; next a room used for social prayer meetings; then Mr. Day's Shoe shop, where making and repairing can be done well, and last, but not least, in Xo. 3 is the very popular

In our columns will be found the Time Table of this popular rocd, which we take pleasure in commending to all who may have occasion to visit any of the Eastern cities. There are obvious reasons why the traveler should take this line in preference to all others, a few of which we enumerate : First It is a broad giuge road, allowing passengersabundant room in their seats, from which a great degree of comfort is derived. Second It is a double track route, thus obviating collisions, and affording additional s.-curitv to life and propcrtv. Third Passengers can take the train at Dunkirk, bulfalo -or Salamanca, and travel the entire. distance to Xew York, without change of Coaches. Fourih The eating houses on the line of j the road are so located that passengers can be provided with meals prepared in the finest style at regular hours. Fifth Tbc scenery utmost the entire length of the line, is of itself worth the price of a ticket, to say nothing of tbecomfoi t to be experienced from havingu seat in one of those rolling palaces of the Erie Hailway. There are many other reasons whj wc would advise our readers to patronize this road, but we bae not space to give them. Our advice, however, is, if you would enjoy all the modern improvements in Hailwav traveling, buy your tickets via the Erie Hailway, for sale'at all principal ticket offices in the West and Soul h-v est. BOURBON CORRESPONDENCE. HocitnoN, Ind., Aug. C l$t'7. Ens. Demockat : The Democratic Township Convention! which assembled here on Saturday, resolved to pivc each candidate his relative strength in the County Convention. KIins- ' IS cr received 'l votes and Jticc 17 votes. The delegates were instructed to vote fir J. C. Cushman for Clerk. Our old friend 11. M. Galcntinc has gone out of the mercantile business, and contemplates arranging his affairs "'so as to take it easy." Andrew Caldwell is putting up a very .substantial residence on his farm adjoining bjwn. Our Methodist friends iu this locality pride themselves on their liberality in extending to other denominations tho fiec use tf their church fur the discussion of religious subjects. Leave was asked and obtained for a Campbellite a Disciple preacher of Warsaw to occupy the house on Thursday last. The discourse was on the subject of Haptism. In the course of his remarks he made, as was thought by some, unfriendly ailu ions to the Methudistieal mode of baptism, and abused the courtesy extended to him in opening the duors of the Church. After the sermon was preached, remarks were called for which resulted in considerable ill-feeling, and the congregation was "considered dismissed' by a Methodist brother. The Disciples couldn't "see it," and continued their remarks until a late hour in the night. ''Heboid how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity !" The freest discussion and expression of opinion is essential to the worship of (Jod, according to tho dictates of conscience, and any abridgement of that right or privilege, is au evidence of weakness somewhere. On the other hand, ho who abuses the "freedom of speech,' and goes beyond the bounds of legitimate discussion and attacks other creeds and doctrines for the purpose of holding them up to ridicule, is entitled to no consideration whatever. 1 he passenger train going west at 2 o'clock Sunday morning ran against a mau by tho name of Albert Cochran, who was
sitting on the track three miles west of this place, hurting him so badly that it is thought ho can not recover. The Board of Kegistry met yesterday morning and is in session to-day. The question has been asked a number of times why the numerous ordinances passed by our city fathers." arc not enforced. We can't tell. The Hoard "works in a mysterious way its wonders t perform! ' Hut littlo new wheat has made its appearance in our market as yet. This may
be accounted for, however, on account of the low prices offered for it. Hut little over 1 50 has been paid for No. 1 wheat and at this price farmers can not afford to sol I. The sa ne quality of wheat in Chi cago sells from 2 10 to S2 20 per bushe'. Our business men who expect to profit by the wheat crop will best consult their own interests by raising the price, and thus save a large portion of it from finding a better market elsewhere, 'er contra 12 a barrel for flour is too much. Tour and a halt" bushels of wheat at a cost of gay $7 will make a barrel of flour. Five dollars profit! Can't stand that. Sccrafarj' Stanton. New York, Aug. 5. The Trilunc special says : ''The old story of the resignation of Secretary Stanton is being revived. Th's time there seems to be good foundation for it. The President's contemplated removal of Sheridan is opposed by Stanton and Grant, The President stated last week that he would remove Stanton first and then Sheridan. Some doubt is expressed as to the President's power to remove a cabinet officer under the civil tenure of office law. The President's frieridssay that if lie can not make Stanton resign, he will suspend hun until the meeting of Congress. The whole matter has been the subject of much talk here within the last twenty-four hours, it not having become known until then that there really was a quarrel between the Presideut and Stan ton. Louisville, Ky., Aug. G. Add it ional election returns confirm the previous reports of a large democratic majority. The American Cooking Stove After twenty years' experience In lue manufacture of stovcs.we beCHinc convinced, inmc six years since, tli.it a vast amount of money was being expended by the people of thin country In buying cheap and almost worthless troves, a lar-re portion of which was wasted ; and that true economy conistrd in buying the beet f tovei that could be made, notwithstanding the price was higher. With this view, we proceeded to construct the Anr-:a i G1mj Stor, and spared no pains or expanse to make it the bet and most perfect stove that could be made. And we have experimented with it, and carefully watched it operations for the last six year, and when au improvement surges-ted itself, we have at once adopted it, and w; have several of these secured by letters patent. In this manner, we no not hesitate to say, we have brought it to a hig'ier state oi peifcction than has heretofore been attained in cooking Ftoves. The recent Improvements in this stove has added largely to its convenience and effectiveness. In all the varieties of stoves we manufacture, we study usefulness, durability, convenience nd economy in operation, rather than cheapness In price, and in so doing we are satisfied we study the interest of those purchasing our stoves.
