THE DEMOCRAT-
Local and Miscellaneous. Advebtisito Agents. C. IL Scmmr & Co., 51 Dearborn Street, ana Cook, Coeckn Co. 85 Dearborn St., Chicairo, Ills, S. M Pettingill, Xew York City, and Geo. P. Rowell & Co., 23 Congrcs3 St. Boston, Mass., tire authorized to receive advertisements for the Democrat. Gold opened in New York yesterday at 143 J and closed at 14G2. The ceueral "markets were fairly active, and prices were irregular, and in some instances higher 'than on the previous day. Farmers are complaining that the weather has been altogether too cold for the growing crop. Unless the weather soon gets warmer than it ha3 heen during the past several days, the corn crop will get a late start in this vicinity. Escaped. The two individuals mentioned in our last issue as having been arrested for robbing the house of Col. Place at La Porto last fall, made their escape lasfc Thursday night, and have not eince been heard from. They were confined in ! La Porte county jail. The Marshall Court of Common Pleas j commenced its June term at the Court Ilnuse Monday hit, with Judge Egbert j presiding. The docket is small, and thej term will nroballv be brief. No causes oil much importance are up for trial. Especial attention is directed to the ad. Tertisement oi Messrs. Kelley & Kerdaiii J j in another column. They have a com- j plete a stock of groceries, provisions, &c, ! as any house in Plymouth, and can sell as l " I 1 1. j i; i low, for either crsh or produce. Give them a call. Fenians. About 900 Fenians passed through this place on Monday night, on their way to the Canada border. They were not disposed to be verv communic tive, but were in fiae spirits and confident j of success, of course, as they all are.The greater number were young men, and looked as if they could endure much of fatigue and privation which must fall to the lot of the brave .oldier bars. Quite a little skirmish too:c rtace ou Iichigan street one mcdit last week, between a couple of "Knights of the pugilis tic art." The Marshal was promptly nruuud ! and quieted the affair before much damage was sustained by cither party. The circulation of the Democrat is rip. idly increasing, and alTurds a splendid opportunity to advertisers. It is the official organ of the count-, and is.takeu by livjn of all parties. Price $2 a year in advance. Xo paper sent from the ofHce until paid for. We don't like to be forever reminding a few persons who hare been owing us for a jear, that we wr.nt them to pay up. They have promised until we arc about tired of that kind of business. The money is what we want now, and ought to have. Those who have been putting U3 off by promises will do well to heed this notice. Hoback's Stomach Bitters. This very cxcellen" io.cdicine has become widely known as one of the best remedies for Dyspepsia and other stomach diseases that has ever been offered to the public. The June term of the Commissioners Court commenced its session in the Grand Jury rjom at the jail on Monday, with the full Board, Messrs. Gnrrison, Hunk and Alleinan in attendance. YVe have not yet learned the nature of the business transacted. Major John Moore has bought an ia. terest in the Parker House of thia place. This accession to the proprietorship of tho Parier will give universal batislaction to the many friends of the Major. Uu-Icr the management of Messrs. Parker & Moore this deservedly popular hotel has now every facility for the accomodation ai.d comfort of guests. Wc have never taken occasion to make mention of the many compliments the Democrat has receive! from the democrat tfytf the county during tho time sinca it 5rst came under our control. Every day, :trmost, "wc receive the kind wishes of tho .noViW ifom.eraev of Mnrvhrdl ("Vm,.,- ...1 . 4 tlrt assurance that our paper gives un.vcriuii; nitrui that tbe Democrat will alway be found battling for the samt; principles of right. The brick-layers are luaily engaged on the brick block of Messrs. Corbin k lion. son, and the work is progressing rapidly. The buildings of Paul and (Juipo are assuming the form of "house3," and IIo3iaui and "Woodward are engage 1 busily in Tlhö enterprise of compieii bc good werk of furnishing a fine brick rofffrr the business men of Plymouth. "We wish to invite the attention of our readers once more to the fact that on SaU urdaj the 9th, township conventions will be held in all the townships in the county for the purpose of selecting delegates toat-
j tena the Coun Conrtntion on the lCth. L. j l nesG raecimgs arc oi raucu importance to the Democracy of the county and should be largely attended by all who desire the succe3 of the lasting principles of Democ racy. In order to cast our full vote this fall, we must harmoniously nominate a good ticket and then give it our cordial support. The friends of some candidates must be disappointed, but the men in whom such disappointment creates lukewarmness as to the success of the cause in which we labor, are hardlv deserving the name of Democrats. Come out, give your friends a hearty support and then acquiesce cheerfully in the result and put your thouldcr to the wheel in good old Democratic fashion and help roll up the 500 majority which Marshall County owes to the State. Nest week we will make some improve ments in the typographical appearance of the Democrat, which will necessarily lengthen the columns and give our readers more reading matter than the paper contvued heretofore. As new material will be required to make thti improvement, it will of course involve an additional expense. We promise our readers that no pains or expense will be spared to make the Democrat one of the best papers in , . . , ,, , quested to assist a little in procuring a few more cash subscribers. Tho more paying subscribers we have, the more interesting will V7ö make the paper for theirr. A few radicals in this county are ex ulting in the hope thit by their misroprc sentations the democracy can be divided this fall. We c?.u assure them that the noble democracy ot Marshall county were never more firmly united, and all the false hoed, scandal and chicanery of the radical disunionists will not move them from their purpose to overthrow the Bureau party this fall by an increased majority. Our best wishes go with him in whatever he may engage, and we hope soon to hear from him ju a position where hid. honesty, j ability and integrity will receive a full reward. Tun Thiai. or Jkff.
