Rowell & Co., 23 Congress St. Boston, Mass., are authorized to receive advertisements for the Democrat. Democratic County Convention. The Democratic County Convention, to nominate officers to be votew fr at the October election lSOlVwill bi held at the Court Honso in Plymouth, June lGth next, at one aVIa.I. T "r rrt l . a.. J o clock P. 31. The democratic vote of the last Presidential election is taken as the basis for representation, and one delegate for every Vva votes and the fraction often, proposed. This gives the following delegation from each township: Tolk 0; West 11 ; Union 13; Green 10; Walnut 11; Tippecanoe S; Bourbon JSC; German 20; North 11 ; Centre 45. The tow nships arc requested to meet and appoint delegates as early as Saturday, June 9th, without fail. It is important that all the delegates I ? present, and that contingents be selected who will attend in case of absence of the regular delegates. It is recommended that each candidate be allowed his relative strength in the convention, on first ballot at "least. Prompt attendance at the time and

fail. A general attendance of democrats from the countv at larp. on that ri.iv will he heartlly welcome, for consultation and a "good time" generally. By order of the Central Committee. C. II. REEVE, Chairman. A, C. CAPROX, Secretary. ToTvnsblp Convention. The Democracy of Center township are requested to meet on SATURDAY, JUNE 9tb, 1865, at 2 o'clock P. 31.. to select delegates to the Democratic County Convention to be held at Plymouth, on the 10th inst., and to transact such other business as maybe necessary. By order of the Committee. We were visited on Sa urday night and Sunday morning with a fine rain, which was much needed. The weather after the vain turned much too coll for the rapid growth of vegetation. It is raining again this (Monday) afternoon and the weather still continues cold. Billiard Tournament at Fort Wayne. The Iudiana State Billiard Tournament will be held at Fort Wayne, comme enems on the 4th of June, and con- , . . ' I one week. A prize of a golden cue j ticue i i aon.-k i , , . t A, t veyed at 300 vail be awarded to the champion. Phelan, McDevit and Carme, of New York, Phil Tieman,of Cincinnati, Jas. Dion, of Montreal, and other diss ticgui'hed players will be present. The billiard men of Fort Wayne are anticipate ing a grand time. Accidental Shooting. We learn that Mr. James Lynn of Bourbon, while moving a stick of timber one day last week was accidentally shot by a pistol contained in his breeches pocket. It is said that the ball after seriously damaging Mr. L., in a manner much to be deprecated, lodged in the upper part of his thi-h. where at last accounts it still remained. We ioarn that it is the intention of the attending Sur-con to avoid an amputation, if possible, though one was talked of first. AltRESTH'. Col. Elace, of La Forte, whose ho us 3 T.as entered n fow mouths eiace, and robbed of ?one fix or eight thousand dollar- in money nnd bonds, ucceded last veek in finding the scamp3vho coramittel tho robbery. We leara that they offered one of tho stolen bonds at Warsaw and were detained until Cel. Place was informed, who prucedcl at once to that place, and after identifying the bond, returned to La Porte in charge ot the three men accused of the offence. Most of the money, a considerable part of which vrat in gold, was recovered. Lady's Friend for June. This superior magazine leads off with a suggestive teel plate called. 4- The Mother's Blessing," illustrating a romantic story. The fashion are distinguished as usual for elegance and apprcpriateness. Airily graceful and delicately gay, they befit the month of roses, cf summer skie and soft south winaa. ine .iusic distress, a gooa woodcut, also illustrates a story. Then follow some well chosen designs which the ladies will find useful, a Gored Dress, an Oriental Braiding Pattern, Tho Spanish Fichu, Grecian Coiffure, fashionable caps ,nd bonnets. Address Deacon & Peterson, .XiO Waluut St., Philadelphia. 'So Skcond p ices! It is not possible for aiy business man to please all classes of customers. For instance, last week we mentioned the case of a lady who thought they were "very independent'' at WesterTilt's, because they would not ?ell an article less than the price to please her. Another one went there a few days ince and looking at a piece of goods asked the proprietor, who was standing near, the price; at the same time remarking, "You have no ueond prices hero have you V He ans swercd, " Not any second prices." Said he, Thit'rf where I like to trade ; when I buy goods where they have two prices I always get cheated." She commenced trading at once and in a short time had bought a nice bill of goods and went on her way rejoicing. Westervelt informs us that as goods are advancing he does not wish to quote priees this week, but will give pricea any day to all who call for them at their counter.
Ignatius, of the concern over the wayf tili presists in a moderate use of Chrys-
tadoras best." The shade of invisible brindlc which the invigorator imparts to the old man's "golden locks" gives his Japanese head and face rather a novel look. Wo suggest that he apply to some traveling menagerie for exhibition as the mammoth Japanese Swine. A drunken man with only one arm became very boisterous on Monday last. He became much enraged at one of the Saloon keepers for some cause, and in his anger broke out a pane of glass, whereupon the . proprietor took a running jump at him, strickinhim in the face and knocking him down. Soon after this the drunken fellow passed down street to another Saloon where he laid himself liable to a prosecution for public indecency. The Marshall came around and arrested him. We learn that the ladies of the Episcopal Church in this place will give a Strawberry Festival in a short time, but where it is to bo held we are not informed. Since the burning of the public halls here last winter the oitizens of Plymouth have been deprived of the bee-. .It of all amusements, j When Messrs. Corbin and Benson com. Pte their new brick block we will havo a publio hall, which will be open to FestU vals and the like. Stark County Ledger. Wo see by the Winnemac Democrat that the initial number of a paper bearing the above title had been received at that office, W. J. Burns, formerly of this place, as editor and publisher. The paper has not appeared at j our table for some reason. P. S. Since writing the above a copy of the Ledger has been received at this office in exchange. It is a neat six column paper, soundly democratic, and ought to receive a generous support. Xcw Goods, and great reduction iu prices, at J. M. Dale & (Jo's. They are in receipt of a very large stock of Spring and Summer Goods. Good Prints at 15c; good BeLaines and Lawns at 20cts, and all other goods in proportion. Let every democrat attend the township conventions on the 9th and see that rood men and true are selected as delegates to the County Convention. None who arc not thoroughly committed to the principles and usages of the democratic party should be returned as delegates. There are, we are proud to say, plenty of such men in -rsuau county, ana nence we may expect C t il . 11 ja ful1 and harmonious County Convention, J "hich U Sivc out 1,0 uncertain sound, but will enunciato principles upon which constitutional men can cordially stand fehouldor to shoulder in tho coming contest. An Elopement. A young friend o ours, who for the present shall bo name less, becoming tired of his position in lifu 'as a single man, a few da3s since took it iuto hi head to taste the comforts of a wedJed life. Iiis fair Dulciuea was nothing loth, but alas, her cruel parfcnts did not approve her choice. Determined not to be kept out of paradise, against their wishes an elopement was agreed upon, nnd our enterprizing friend having procure ed a span of horses and a buggy repaired to the residence of his fair one, arriving in the absence of her parents. While making the necessary preparations for departure, the young lady's mother arrived at the scene of operations, and seeing how matters stood, pcremptoriily ordered the young man to leave at once and alone. This he declined doing and report says there was , quite a little skirmish between them, during which the fair one betook herself to the bu.,gy wliere gho was joiücd ly hcr J irrepressible loryer who soon put quite a . distance between the lady and her homo. They arrived in town soon, and with the assistance of tho lady'g farorito minister were duly made one. Thus endeth the first lesson. "We have no taste whatever for person alitie3." Republican . If by "personalities" the editor of the K'j ullican mcan.s personal conflicts where there is the slightest danger of sufi'oring bodily hurt, then is the above true as gospel. If he means to convey the impression that he has no tasto for using evil, false, scandalous, vulgar, slanderous and abusive language relative to those with whom he may not agree personally or politically, then is the above an urimitigated falsehood, known by all who have ever known the editor of the Republican. In view of the past record uiado by him he should at least have had tha decency to refrain from placing himself in such an unenviable position before the public. No man who ever lived In this place has used half as much personal abuse towards hi.s opponents rs has Ignatius Mattingly, and yet he has tho boldness to declare that he hai "no taste for personalities."
For Sale Cheap. A first class Shaw & Clark Sewing Machine. Enquire at this office for particulars. (tf.) We call the attention of farmers and others interested to the advertisojient of the La Porte Woolen Factory, which can be found in another column.
Members of the Fire Department can procure their certificates of membership by calling on the Corporation Clerk ; office over the Bank. We call the attention of the public to the health ordinance published in another column. The Board of trustees should see that this ordinance is strictly enforced, a? it is much needed. The Presbyterian Church has procured a new organ, a great improvement over the old one. We learn that the new instru ment cost $300, and was furnished by Mr. Whitmore at the wholesale price, with transportation added. More New Groceries. Ab. Becker & Co. are receiving auother large and well assorted stock of groceries and provisions at their room north of Brownlee's brick. The public will not forget that these gentlemen are doing a heavy business, and arc therefore selliug cheaper thau the cheapest. Give them a call and our word for it, you will get good bargains. We have a Scholarship in tho Oberlin Commercial College which will be sold cheap to asy person applying soon. A Circular and Catalou&e of this popular institution can be seen at this office. tf. All who are in want of Boots or Shoes iad better call at Paul's Root and bhoe Store, in the south room of J. L. Westervclt's Building, where they can buy a better article for less money than they can buy any where else in Plymouth. n20tf. Kvery day affords new proofs of the peculiar effects of Roback's Stomach Bitters in cases where a disordered condition of tho stomach, liver and bowels, is coiabiucd with great debilitv, nervousweakness, and intense melancholy, thcro can be no doubt but it is a sure panacea.
