On Thursday night of last week the Paldwin House, near the depot, was entered by biTglarsand the proprietor, 31 r. Geo. The same night the room of the junior editor of this p iper, at the Uiilro i l Hö h, was entered, probably by the same scamp who robbed Mr. Baldwin, an 1 in the morning the junior afore said was minus a watch and chain. A day or two before the rainy weather Fct in, we had a (Icrman at work for us who remarked one clear day that it would commence raining within forty-eight hours and continue for seven week without an intermission of more than two or three days ; at any one time. Wc paid little attention to it at the time, thinkiug the old man was somewhat superstitious. Iut if it holds out the balance of the time .13 it has done thus far, we think seriously of taking lesson sof that man in the science of weather signs. The confiscation act is vigorously executed throughout Virginia. The property of many persons pardoned by the president has been libeled.
