Wash for Fruit Trees. The bet -wash for trunks ami braneboof fruit trees is made l y dissolving half a pound of potash in two gallons of water. This is applied with a brush at any season, but, perhaps, with most effect in spring. One. or, at most, two applications will rid the stems of trees of the bark louse and render it smooth and flossy. Tt is far more efficacious than whitewash as a preservative acrainst the attack of insects, while it promotes the growth ef tue tree, ndds t'. the natural lively color of the bark. The wash of soft sorp is also a very rood one for many purposes, though nc I'ipu il f jr general purposes to the potash v.:ish. The soap wash is bct for old trunks with thick and rigid bark, as u portion of it remains upon the surface of the bark fur some time, and with the action of every raiu :s dis.i-.lvel, und thus penetrates into all the crevice whore insects may be lodged, destruviuir thens andsufteniner the bark itself. Or heat one pound ufsal si.-Ia to redness iii an iron pot, and dissolve it in a gallon of water. This wash wiil take oft'Jill the moss and dead bark, nod kill all inserts on all fruit trees and irrapevines and make thorn ns smooth as though polished, and i;:ake old trees bc:.r anew, la using the wash of soft soap, it is bc-.-t to reduce it about one-half villi water, os an injury may be done if applied in fu i strength. For voting trees "it i.better to use a solution oputash say, oao third to one half ;vs strong.
