Yet in view of all tMs he clly informs us that we rn'i-t ii' it take any efficient measures to S'-'uea fair and free election, and adds jnsult to injury by saying that he has heretofore so frr a was in his power prot .-cted t ho people in the exercise of the elective franchise, and that there ij no reason to fear any interference with that right hereafter, lie knows a well a anybu'ly th:it there li.i- n t beeu a fair or free election at Indianapolis for two years past, that dem er.its have been driven from the polls and mobbed at every election held there during tlr.it time, that democrats have been a r re.-ted without cau.-c. imprisoned and finally set at liberty without ever being made acquainted with the charges made against them, that democratic iil-w.-;-
so bad that the people refuse voluntarily to sanction it; or else the people themselves have become so lo.t to all sense of
their own interests, to their duty as patri-l

where the sovereign is the source uf power, it ma well be different. There the people are subject by law, and according to the theory of the government, to the will of the llulcr, and he, not they, is responsible for the welfare of the people and the perpetuity of the government, but in a representative Kepublican government like ours, the people constitute the source uf power, ami they, not their servants who for the time being are rulers, are responsible lor their welfare and the perpetuity of their political institutions. Hence wc .ay that forced military service is contrary to the genius of our government, and destructive of the very principles upon which it rests. We defy any man to show by the process of sound reasoning that drafts or conscriptions are, or can be, beneficial to us as a people. We are free to say that we are opposed to the whole system of forced military service, and especially to the existing conscription law, and to any and all drafts made under or by virtue of it. poor houses are filled with children? This war must go on according to "my plan" the vagaries of a buffoon must be respected, the warning of statesman must be disregarded, and this thieving, murderous erusai?c for cotton ami the nigger be kc-t up uuiil if becomes chronic, .simply because
Abraham Lincoln and his office holders think more of accomplishing their varied ends than of the welfare of the country. The country mourns a million sons. The land is clad in mourning. There are to-da' more widows in black than soldiers in blue! There are to-day in the North more prostitutes than ever before driven to the dernier resort to escape stavation. There are more orphans in the land than negroes in the South, but war must go on according to the Abolition plan, till ruin, bankruptcy and starvation welcome us with emaciated fingers to pauper's graves.
Where are the tdatesmen of America? Dead!
Where are the sons and brothers lent to
Abraham Lincoln? Scattered corpses over a thousand battlefields. In whose hands have the people fallen?
Ask the widow maker, who lays the na tion across his knee and tickles her catastrophe with obseenr jokes and little stories! Don't whine! Don't find fault! This is a republican war now. Once it was a war for the Union. Now it is not. Stand by your pet! Wring out the blond from the clothcsof those lost in battle, and wear them to the renewal of the feast of death! Abraham the brave wants to free the nigger. Never mind your families. Let them starve. Never mind your wives. Let them beg or do the other thing. Never mind j-our children. Let them die, or live as they
please, but you must fo to war. It s inn. Keep still, your turn will soon come! La Crotse Ihmocrt.

The Lincoln newspapers are as whist as mice over the "Wade-Davis manifesto. They neither publish it nor allude to it in the slightest manner. They seek to keep their readers in ignorance of it. They
are afraid to let their readers see it. They have adopted the policy of defrauding their readers of the current intelligence of the day, just as Mr. Lincoln has adopted the policy of manufacturing fraudulent electoral votes for the Presidency. But it will not do. The Wade-Davis manifesto will find its wav to the masses of the republican party, however the Lincoln newspapers may undertake to suppress it. Tim 8.
