It is generally conceded at Xew Orleans that the result of the recent battles in Western Louisiana was adverse to Gen. Hanks, as the rebels retained possession of the field after the last day's light, while the Federals retreated a distance of forty miles, and arc now engaged in fortifying thier position ai Grand Fcorc. Illinois r .giments suffered very severely in the engagements, the 77th and loOth, especially, being almost annihilated. There are reports, probably without foundation, that liens.
