SriaiTUAL Difficulties at Stitkgis, Mien. The citizens of the village of Sturgis have been kicking up quite a breeze among themselves lately in regard to spiritual affairs. Seme two or three weeks ago the noted Ira Davenport and daughter arrived there, and commenced giving exhibitions of what the Jonrnal calls "spiritual manifestations in demonstration of the immortality of the soul' without license. The proper authorities demanded that Davenport should take out a licence, which he refused to do, whereupon he was arrested and held to bail in the sum of 8200 to appear at the nest term of the Circuit Court. No sooner was this done than a Deputy United States Marshal stepped forward and demanded a government license

to be paid. This the "demonstrator" eon-. rT eluded it wis test to pay. ana ma go ai once. Another suit is still pending against him on an attachment in favor of the vil- j lae of Sturgi.
