inquiry of a conservative man, that he :
would not ehanire his policy even though a restoration of the Union could thus be effected. The Chicago Tribune, one of the most prominent abolition journals in the country, declares that the Uniou as it was will never blot the pages of history, or curse the eyes of man ajrain," and the respect in which it is to vary is that if restored at all it must be restored with slavery abolished. Rather docs it choose disolution, to the Union as it was. So docs our neighbor of the Ihpuhlkan. So do the adherents of the party which adopted the foregoing resolutions. Ask them if they would prefer separation to a restoration of the Uniou with sdavery as it existed before the rebellion, and if they answer you truly they will say separation. Abolition or separation is the clearly defined '"policy" of the a ltniuistration, with minor details thrown in, such as suppression of free speech, and free press; the doctrine of unlimited power in the President; a total disregard of all Law, and contempt for the Coustitut n. which they cannot reconcile to their ' olicv." The resolution that the soldiers are fighting for "Liberty and Union." is equally explicit, showing that Union is one object and Liberty another, but equally important in the struggle, whose liberty? no whites are sought to be enslaved. TheLiberty can only be for the negro. Then our brave boys are out fighting for the liberty of negroes and the Union. All who endorse the "War policy" of the administration and a war for the free-

Now this makes the issue before thc voters of MafMJ Count? very plain in-ilccd,

The democratic party has at its head men of eminence, patriotism and statesmanlike abilities, who are fully competent, to enunciate its principles, believing those principles correct it will fearlessly advocate them. If wc believe the administration to be venal and corrupt, the conduet of the war unwise and the laws in need of revision and changes, it is our duty to act accordingly, and we shall do so, even though every soldier in the field may differ with us simply considering them in
error, and willingly according them their
