THE PLYMOUTH WEEKLY DEMOCRAT. NUMB ER 159.
Ufirspaprrj. Daily and "Weekly IKDUXA STATE SEXTINBL.
Hare let the press the pcopU'a rights mintain, Unawed by influence and unbought by g:dn." The Dally and Weekly State Sentinel are the ecognizeJ ordain of the Democracy of Indiana. At it has in the past, the Sentinel will continue to advocate those principles and measures which ara best calculated to advance the rnppines, the properity and the f-edoi.i of the people from all unjust and unnecessary retr-iints. While cheerfully sustaining the Government as loyal citizens t hoüld, the Sentinel will vigilantly watch all encroachments upon popular rights and the true principles of constitutional liberty. The freedom of speech and the freedom of the press are necessary to preserve and secure free institutions. When these are struck down, no matter what may be the apology therefor, from that day dates the decline of American liberty. In order to form a more perfect union, establish justice, insure domestic trau piditv, provide for the common defense, promote the general welfare and secure the blessings t .liberty to ourselves stud po.teritv, the Sentinel will fearlessly scrutinize and approve or condemn, as it believes the public gool requires, all measures of the State and National Adm nitrations. I will ever keep in view the distinction between supporting the Government and the venal acts of those who "represent the Government. And wo appeal for the support of all who desire to mnitain a pure Constitutional Government, and continue for ourselves and our posterity the glorious heritage of free institution:?, won by the valor and frtrue 1 by the wisdom and integrity of the men w!n pledged their life, tlieir fortunes and their sacre 1 honors for liberl and independence. For the purp no of extenling the circulation of the Daily and Weekly Indiana State Ser.tiuel, ita proprietors solicit everyDemocrat, every friend of c-iuud and conservative National principles to aid t'ieni in that object. It h needless to urge the importance of the press as an agency in sustaining a piry organization and securing the success of It Principles, ami Representative men. The Sentinel will take for its political guide the National and State Democratic Platforms and earnestly advocate the principles and policy they m.tintai.i. The Sentinel will.also.be a general newspaper. It will contain the latest Telegraphic News from all parts oftheworld.a full and correct report of the E.i :ern Cattle Markets and the General Markets of all the pnncipil cities of the Union ; Foreign ai.J Domestic intelligence ; Congressional proceedings ; lull reports of the Legislative Proceedings of our owr Stat- ; Interesting Tales, Literary aril Religious Miscellany; Inventions and Discoveries ; Decisions in the Supreme Court of the State and the Federal, Circuit and District Courts, with notices of their arguments and proceedings ; the local news of the various counties of the State, which will be of general interest ; the Commercial and Financial Intelligence, articles! upon Acrriculture and Seienee, and editorial reTie ws aLd comments upon the current topics of the dar. No. 2, Shuttle Machine, formerly sold at $1C0, Reduced to $1)0. winger's Letter A Machine, Is the best in the World for Family Sewing and Light Manufacturing Purposes. We would ask for our Letter A Machines, the special attention of Vest Makers and Dress Makers, . ,,.. i t...i.: r a na an tnosc wno wain ;uanmiM tur manulouring purpo.es. 1 hey embody the principles Mwmmnnir . .-u ., m.K.ug kC them the interlocked s itch, and are destmed to be as celebrated lor tamily Sewing and light manuluring purposes as our Manufacturing Machines are for manufacturing r-uip)ses in general. Family Sewing Machines are valuable in proportion to the number of things they can do well. See what ours can do before making a purchase. Tucre is no doubt as to the value of our Machires for manufacturing purposes, but it is only of late that lie public began to learn that the essntial elements of a machine best adapted to the embodied in a Family Machine. It is now well understood that our Letter A Machine is the only Family Machine yet offered to the public which has simplicity, rapidity, durability, and ceitainty of correct action. While as a general thing, the sewing machine people are candid enough to acknowledge that our machines are unequaled for manufacturing purposes, they are almost sure to ascrt, in the same breath, that Singer' Letter A, llnsisa meretriCK oi uiemuv, unu necunndt ntly invite those interested in the subject to examine for themselves, and sec what our Letter A Family Machines, with all tlu recent improve ments, arc capable of doing. While they will sew i the most delicate material to perfection, asalready ; stated, they are also adapted to light mauufacturi"S ourposes, and this, be it remembered, can not be -said of any of tie other family Machines yet The Nos. 1 and 2 Machines are of great capa city and application for manufacturing purposes. Our No. 3 Machines arc especially adapted to all kinds of liht and heavy leather work, in CarI riagc Trimming, Doot and Shoe making, Harness making, &c. &c. 1 hey are ot extra mze, with an arm long enough to take under it and stitch the largest sized dashes. There is scarcely any part of a Trimmers stitching that cannot be better done with them than by hand; so, too, the saving of time and labor is very great. The table of these machines is 24 inches long, and the shuttle will hold kix times as much thread as the shuttle of those used for tailoring purposes. The large machines work as fat as small ones. We have always on haud. Hemming Gauges, Silk Twist. Linen and Cotton Thread on Spools, Best Machine oil in bottles, &c. We manufacture our own Needles, and would warn all persons usir.g our machines not to buy any others. We know that there are needles sold of "the most inferior quality, at higher prices than we charge for the best. The needles Fold by us are manufactured especial y for our machines. A ' bad needle ma render the working of the best machine almost useless f,ir iwt(imcrs riav rest assured that all our , ßriintn otiieesarc furnished with the genuine arti i cic In case of small purchases, the money may be sent in postage stamps, or bank notes. Correspondents will please, write their names distinctly. It is all important that we should, in e:ch case, know the Post Oilice, County, and State. All persons requiring information aboutScwing Machines, their ai.e, prices, working capacities, aud the best methods of purchasing, can obtain it by sending to us, or any of our Branch Ollices for a copy of "J. M. Singer & Co's. Gaette," which is a beautiful Pictorial paper entirely devoted to the subject. It will be sent gratis. We have made the above reduction in priceg with the two fold view of benefiting the public and ourselves. The pub ic have been swindled by muriou9 machines made iu imitation of ours. The metal in them, from the iron casting to t-ie smallest piece, is of poor quality. Their makers have not the means to do their work well. They are hid away in secret places, where it would tie impossible to have at their command the proper meclwanical appliances. It is only by doing a : e, cat business, and having extensive manufactur n,? establishments, that good machines c n be ma e at moderate prices. The best designed ma chines, badly made, are always liable to get out of order, and are sure to cost considerable trouble in J money to keep them in repair. The qualities to be looked for in a Machine, are: certainty of correct action at all rates of speed, simplicity of construction. great durability, and rapidity of operation, with the least labor. Machines to combine there essential qualities, must he made of t:c best metal and finished to perfection. We have the ways and means, on a grand scale, to do this. The purchasers of Machines, whose daily bread it may concern, will fin 1 that those having the above qualities not only work well at rapid as ell as slow rate of "peed, but last lonjr lu the finest possible working order. Our machines, as made j by us, will earn more money with 1cm labor than j any others, whether in imitation of ours or not in fact, inr ? are cneipvrmen i any uwicriuucnmcs ' ar gift. A Democratic Conservative Newspaperin the City of New Yoxk. TIIE NEW Y0RKÜEEKLY ARGUS. To Ilestore the Union and Maintain THE CONSTITUTION. For several years the Democratic and Conservative sentiment of the Nation has been keenlv alive to the necessity of being faithfully and ably represented by a first class Newspaper, published in the City of New York, adapted to popular circulation, aud wielding a wholesme influence throughout the Union. The great want has been, and is, a paper which fdmll sustain the same relation to Democratic and Conservative principle as does th New York Tribune to Abolitionism ard all kinds of Radicalism a paper conducted with falcnt and prudence, with cot red appreciation of
n:e u ue principles oi our Government and fidelity to them ; in all respects a first class newspaper, and yet afforded at a price bringing it within the reach of the masses of the People throughout the Country. The undersigned, from tlieir connection with the Albany Atlas & Argus one of the oldest and best known Democratic papers in the Union have been constantly urged, during the last three or four years, to respond to this demand, by establishing a first class Weekly Newspaperin the City of New York, adapted to general circulation. We yield to the wishes of our poiitical friends, and have therefore transfcred the publication of the Wcekli Atlas & Amis to the City of New York, where it will hereafter be issued "under the name of THE NEW YORK WEEKET ARGUS. It is published ir quarto form, of the size o' the leadiug New Yor!c Weeklic; and we promise that in its News, Editorial, Literary, Mis, ellaneoua and Agricultural Dcpartmeats, in its Market Reports, and in all other respects, it shall b at least equal to any paper published in that citv. lulc devoting to it our own editorial services, 'it has also the benefit of the entire time and constant supervision of Mr. Klon Comstock, for several years one of the editors of the New York Journal of Commerce, a gentleman of recognized editorial ability and experience. The editort will therefore be CALVERT COMSTOCK. WILLIAM CASSIDY, ELON COMSTOCK; with ample additional speciul assistance in the several departments of the paper. Next to a vigorous support of the Federal Government in its prjsent peril the fin great dutt of every patriotic citizen the leading purpose of the Editors will be to advocate Democratic and Conservative doctrines, and to engraft them upon the policy and administration of the Governments State and National. At the same time they will strive to furnuh the r readers the best possible general newspaper. The latest intelligenceforeign and domeetic will always appear in the columns of their papwr ; and its Commercial Department v ill embrace the fullest and most re liable information, including -..--...., .....1 .t report of the Money, Produce and Cattle Markets at New York and other leading points of commercial transactions.
