THE DEMOCRAT.
Local and Miscellaneous. D. E. VANVALKENBUROH, : : Editor Whe.it is now worth from 83 to 83 cents in this maiket. Apology, We are sorry to be compelled to do so, but circumt.ices over which we h:ive no control, force u to apologize lor tlie small amount of reading matter we place before our readers this week. One of our printers is sick and unable to work at all, and another unable to work over half the time; end it being impossible to procure other help, we are compel ed to do the best we can, at present, and promise better things hereafter. We have been crowded with Job work and short of help, lience changes we propose to make ia the Demo crat are yet unmade, and we have to ask our pat rona to be Datient with us: we will como out all right. We do not kuow at what hour the Comet may now bt seen, but we do know the best time to see a greater curiosity is about 8 o'clock in the morn ing, the best place to 6ce it is one door South of the Edward's House, in Rice and Smith's store room. It is best to go early because the room is usually full after about nine o'clock in the morning. If you would visit the room and be comfortable, go early. Lemon's Drug Store li?s a spare corner devoted to the nlightenmer mankind; more especially the citizens of Af.irsh ilk County; in it he keeps all kinds of Books topers 4c, including the Chicago and Cincit..! iti Dailies. Messrs Ecglston aud Shook are progressing finely iu raising a coniai'y, and if the draft doea tit strike them too soon, will surely succeed in filling their couipan. S.and M BccKta have received a portion of their tock of New Goods, and the rest are arriving caily. The boys have purchased an imraenso stock, as they are compelled to do to supply their customers, an J if they sustain the reputttion they Jiave acquired in this community, they will sell them cheap and deal fairly with their customers. It is woTth while to cill and examine the large and well selected stock of goods that fills their capacious store. We understand tlut Messrs. N. IT. Ogi.espks. Jas. MiTCHFf.L. and F. II. H.it. are raising a Uutcry iu this District. They are all good uicu. Blah & Co., h ive jmc been replenishing their stock of Dr jg and Medicines, and have now evttythiug pertaining to their business, you can call for. They keep g.yd drugs and sell them honestly, liav ng but one price for one article Thebys are pleasant and accommodating; esecially "Lankey" more especially "Shortey." Dr's. T. A. and A. O. Pjvios hare removed their Oihre to the WestsiJe of Michigan Street, over 'Hill's B-ikery, tw doors North of Jfewett nd Woolinl's Brick. Tlieir new rooms arc fitted up with g.iod taste and with an eye to the cirafcrt of patients vi.-iting them in their Office having no, what every Phy-siciun's Office needs, a inception and a consultation room, Tney are gentlemen and competent in tlieir business. Secret iKic!f',ü The M C, Rruullican and somi of the most senseless and noisy politicians of the same stripe, witi; iTttend-d scrvMisness, state th.it there are secrf t societie- in Marshall County, organized for the -.'ir -:' of ie-i:ing the Draft, and the paymei. A .t.ti-ft! Tixes Saving they have .imp'. . . i;.ice t .i'. mho is the case. How silly! When they nuke .his charge according to Old Abe's logic they know it to be true, or they don't kuow it to be true. If they know it to be true they re traitors and conspirators for not having the parties arrested and punished, and the organizations broken up. If they doa't know it to De true they are falsifiers, knaves aud cheat?, and are Irving a shallow unw orthy, school boy deception, to catch votes -ind save their sinking fortunes. A 11 one of the prominent circu! itora of this silly falsehood a pre ach er at times. 'Verily of such is not the Kingdom of iK'.iren." The Da.rr. The Draft is postponed for the ft- lit, for what pi.rpose we are unabir to &iv, ud until heu. ue don't know We don't know anything about it, presume it's a State secret Am overgrown, ignorant, ill m mnered fi Jliw, who flourishes in Orven Township, and who rcjoicesin the suggest! vt apptllation ot Arch Uabby, lias distinguished him-elf recently, by disturbing Democratic mtctings in that section. Tin same fellow shcuM not bo urprised if he gets 'hurted' iKrae day, while amusing himself iu that manner. We are informed that the Balhxn' we advertise this week, will up thij week Saturday. ThcDrari Iofpoiirl By spcil perniis-ion from Gov. Morrow, the Draf: was put off a few days, in anticipation of the immens stock of goods being opened at the Low PaicE Store. The nolde Governor has also gi anted five days to those who shall be draftel, to enable them to avail themselves ot the great bargains now being offered, and supply their families with hat they may ued ia tbeir bsenee. Ja order to meet this great demand Rice and 5M1TH hare brought on the largest stock of oods ever opened in Marshall County These goods wer Wougbt four weeks ago, and there having been a great advance in prices since. many of them are now being 6oId at lesd than New York prices.
